RE: Vanilla playcalling
I was disappointed with First Half play calling on numerous occasions. When we were up by one TD and Two TDs later, I still wanted to be a little more aggressive, but I could see Coach Fuente decided that our defense was stopping them so he would play the averages. You could see his anguish when he was bent over for a long period when USF was getting the ball back with a chance to tie us at the end. I'm guessing he was thinking "I hope I made the right decision". He won, so he did.

RE: Vanilla playcalling
Most players including Florida State a few weeks ago probably never faced a 4-2-5 defense in their lifetime, so it's different to adjust to and Fuente wanted to keep offense simple

Vanilla playcalling
Coach called a GREAT game. Clock management was fantastic. Great calls and a great chess match in my opinion.

This was a trap game for us, and they had a bye week, so we were flat in the first quarter, then pretty much dominated the rest of the way.
But we could afford to play that way. Our punting game kept them in a hole, and, as someone else pointed out, we still had over 300 yards passing. I was okay with the game plan.
To be completely straight about it though, a lot of the 300 was YAC. Dorceus had what, 57, on his TD, and Craft's TD was mostly YAC too, IIRC. We weren't really airing it out, but of course, you take what the defense gives you. A lot of people can't seem to grasp the fact that there are 11 guys across the line of scrimmage who are trying to prevent you from doing what you want to do.

Except FSU practices against a 4-2-5 daily since that is what they run.

Coach probably knew that they weren't going to put up a lot of points unless we gave them good field position on turnovers so he managed the game by using field position and a more methodical approach on offense. He did the same thing against Ole Miss last year.
This!
Don't over looked the pressure and sacks Paxton experienced for the first time this season. I love it that we can throw for over 300 yards and open the 2nd half with an on-side kick and fans call it vanilla. Are we spoiled already?
They are going to have to figure some way to give PL some protection against ole miss. Their rush will be better than USF. We have got to protect becauce ole miss will try to knock him out. Literally.
Agreed. CJF talked about his concern about the USF front 7. USF isn't close to ole miss front 7.

Maybe, maybe not. We'll find out in two weeks.

Well said.
Not really
That is how teams play when they are better than the other team.

We should be well rested / healed up and certainly motivated and ready to play. I'm torn between wanting to pull out all the stops to try to beat them or not worrying about it and not showing everything we have to Temple, Navy, and Houston......
The conference games really are much more important in the long run.
