You just can't seem to do anything anymore without fear of offending somebody.

On it's own, the PC siren may not have sounded. But considering the "Trouble in Louisville", wiser heads
should have prevailed.

Yeah, it's probably not an image you want portrayed for the university, regardless of whether its offensive or not.

I'm amazed that our social media crazy president has managed to avoid controversy despite his ubiquitous posts to the masses. I give Ono credit for making the right choices.

It's the difference between us and them. We're much better.

I applaud the Louisville president and staff for getting in the spirit of the holiday and having some fun.

I hate the PC police and would love to have a party like this but, considering everything going on at UofL right now, and considering he is the president of a university (with the PC police swirling), I question the decision to participate here. Funny thing is he could lose his job for this while Pitino could go Scott free.

I just held a Halloween party with 27 in attendance. I didn't dress everyone up in sombreros and mustaches. Everyone dressed themselves and came as Frankenstein, the Bride of Frankenstein, Santa and Mrs. Claus, a vampire, a prisoner, a deranged surgeon, blackeyed peas, a unicorn, a cowgirl, a cat burglar - you know...normal Halloween stuff.

When everyone dresses in sombreros and mustaches, it's no longer Halloween - it's a theme party based on a caricature of a specific ethnicity.

Truth be told, I was going to have a birthday party for my dad last March with a fiesta theme...which included sombreros and fake mustaches. Didn't think twice about it. Spent quite a bit of money on all this stuff readily available at the party store. But I'm not a university president posting it out there as a university event.

Gotta take things in context. All I'm saying is that it probably wasn't wise for Ramsey to do this.

So I know I am not a member of the PC crowd, and I realize when you get into Acedemia, PC takes whole another turn. I still don't realize why this is so offensive. I am of German heritage, and it does not offend me one bit to see people dressed in lederhosens, chugging beer, and eating sausages.

Why is it such a big deal that we have different heritages, with different traditions, and maybe different funny sterotypes people associate us with.

It is really a tiny % of PC activists that started on costumes a few years ago. Basically you can't be a Japanese Geisha, or a hood rat, or a terrorist, or a Mexican / Sombrero etc. Anything based on White/Euro is perfectly fine of course like,

OK

We have a yearly Oktoberfest where a bunch of people dress in lederhosen, durndels, funny German hats, etc. I've yet to meet anyone offended by this portrayal of German ethnicity (mostly because they are all having too much fun).

Of course, Minster, Ohio may have a higher concentration of German ethnicity than the one in Germany...

Except for the infestation of drunken Bucknuts, Minster has one great Oktoberfest.

I wonder why Ramsey didn't go with the lederhosen theme.

The entire area honestly. Take 119 from Minster to St. Henry, I'd swear there is a 95% German Ethnicity on a 10 mile wide swab centered on a 119....
