Kicking Game
Haven't seen anyone bring this up so I figured I would...

Andrew Gantz continues to be absolute money. That 51 yard FG he hit could have gone from about 65 yards.

Sam Geraci had a great night as well. Did anyone see that 62 yard punt he had. Shot off his foot like a cannon and must have went a mile high. He had another monster punt as well but it was called back due to penalty. He averaged 46 yards a punt last night.

Finally, did anyone catch that field goal one of the fans hit to win some $$. Guy comfortably cleared the upright and probably could have kicked it from another 15-20 yards back. If we didn't have Gantz I'd say he needs a tryout.

agree, the kicking game was excellent last night. So much better than in Tub's first year. That was brutal.

Geraci had 1 bad punt, and he was pissed about it. Made up for it the rest of the game.

RE: Kicking Game
Just for some added perspective on Geraci's improvement.

In his first 5 games last year:
23 punts for a 37.2 average and 31.4 net average with 4 inside the 20 and 4 TB's

In his first 5 games this year:
17 punts for a 46.5 average and 40.4 net average with 7 inside the 20 and 2 TB's

He's effectively giving us an added 40 yards per game this year vs. last year.

+1 He's been so clutch. He was the difference in the Miami (Oh) game and kept us in it at Memphis. He's been huge this year.

Gantz has been awesome. Wasn't he originally supposed to go to Tennessee or did I dream that up?

Yep, he was the #3 kicking prospect in the countrywhen he was with Tennessee and decommited from there when Butch was hired...ended up #21 in the country when he walked on at UC. Crazy how that stuff extends to specialists now too 03-lmfao

I thought he committed to Tennessee right after Butch was hired, but then switched to UC right before signing day.

Yeah, he knew Butch from camping at UC and committed to UT at the end of January 2013 as a PWO after they hired Butch. In June he flipped on Butch and committed to UC also as a PWO (another reason I love this kid!)

RE: Kicking Game
We have had a stud PK (Rich Karlis, Jonathan Ruffin) and a stud P (Kevin Huber) but I don't remember having BOTH at the same time. The kicking game is so often ignored, but damn...having a stud PK or a stud P can save the game, flip the field, and completely change the momentum of the game.

We are so lucky to have BOTH Gantz and Geraci on the sidelines at the same time. It is an amazing thing.

We actually have 2 UC grads punting in the NFL (Huber and O'Donnell). Yes I know O'Donnell transferred but he was a graduate.

I would doubt many schools have provided the NFL with more punters than the Bearcats.
Besides Huber and O'Donnell; Jeff West had a long NFL career and Mike Connell punted a few years in the NFL.

Tennessee probably beats us with all the Colquitts.

I was impressed with Gantz last year and even more so this year. At 5-9 and a buck 70 (probably more like 160) the kid has a bionic leg and ice in his veins. Thus far he's 12-14 FG's and 21-21 PAT's. The bonus is he's only a soph. Love it. The future is bright for Andrew.

RE: Kicking Game
Gantz has been incredible; the 51 yard field goal he hit looked like it was shot out of a cannon and would probably have been good from 65.

Didn't realize Geracis numbers were so good thus far. The book on him is inconsistency; sometimes he booms it sometimes he hits it really poorly. I watched him practice at half and it looked like everything he hit was a knuckleball. Hopefully he's finding consistency during the games because he certainly doesn't lack leg talent.

I'd take Gantz over Nugent.

I think the knuckleball is intentional, it goes left then comes back to the right. I've seen him do it a bunch of times and I think he's doing it to avoid the big hook on his longer kicks. But I'm no expert.

Not quite the same ring as "Linebacker U" but I guess that makes the Bearcats "Punter U".
