USF feels like Memphis is year 2 under Fuente...

Unfortunately for Taggart is year 3 so he might not be around for the turn around

I think there is one big difference. Even when we won 4 and 3 games in Fuente's first two seasons, you could see that we were continuing to get better, even though our talent wasn't above average.

At USF, it doesn't feel like you're substantially improving, just staying the same, even with better talent than average.

Justin lost his first game to UT Martin.

We went out to eat after the game and those in the restaurant that hadn't been to the game couldn't understand why we kept saying we were very encouraged by what we saw.

"hammer?"

That would require more than a generalized, non-specific polite request to a large number of posters, without calling anyone out specifically, wouldnt it?

No warnings, no bans, no posts hidden or moved. Just a request.

Not sure how that's a "hammer."

Meanie.

There was a time when some of these boards were ruled with a heavy hand. One of the reasons it has gotten better is because people can speak more freely without fear of banishment. I don't want to go back to the old days.

The really really bad part was that utm was bigger and faster. They didn't gimmick us. We were just that bad

I remember plainly the shock experienced with comparing the size of the two teams. A mid level OVC squad was bigger than us. It is amazing in retrospect that we won four games the first season.

I understand your concern, but I don't share it. This is a basic personal responsibility issue; we can't exempt folks from owning the impacts of their words to the atmosphere of the forum as a whole.

I get it-- some people feel it's inconvenient for them to have to consider what they say and how it might come across before they say it. But how entitled an attitude is it to say "I ought to be able to say whatever I want, regardless of how it impacts the rest of the forum"?

I promise, the inconvenience of having to momentarily check yourself (or be reminded to check yourself) is tiny in the grand scheme of things.

I have confidence that if ANY of the good people here would step back, they'd realize that this is not a flattering battle to fight. I'm sure, if we thought about it, everyone here would realize how truly selfish and entitled it would seem to place their own desire to pop off at the mouth above courtesy toward and respect for others.

So now in addition to being a mod, you're part of the thought police. You and others don't have a right to be offended.

Nobody is claiming they've been "offended." It's not an emotional issue here-- I'm not that dramatic, and I personally find manufactured outrage to be distasteful. I'd just like it if we could do our best to make sure everyone feels welcome here. I find it confusing, honestly, that it's been such a point of contention.

Nobody is trying to "police" anything. It's just an appeal to decency, and courtesy.

An "appeal" is fine. But I will never apologize for striving for liberty. You asked in your response to me earlier not to turn this into a political thing.

Quote:Let's not try to turn a discussion of basic manners and decency into a political discussion.

I don't think we are, or at least I am. I am just using the tern "PC Police" because it is the only term I can think of to convey my accurate feelings about some telling someone else how to think and/or act toward others. I know you are not doing that. You are asking nicely. I get it.

But if you are going to ban (or at a minimum, discourage the use of) the term "Thug", then you might as well disallow people from accusing other teams of "playing dirty", as it is the same unfair and unprovable ideal that is meant to enrage the targeted fan base.

But this ain't preschool.
