Exclamation Wait, didn't Cincinnati beat Miami this season?
I'm very confused. I'm remembering that Cincinnati beat Miami 37-33 earlier this year. Since when is there a such thing as having two games against the same team in college football, especially in non-conference?

Miami of Ohio is 120 or so years older than Miami Fl. They are also named for the Indian tribe. So I am thinking they're the real Miami, just not the famous one.

To add to that. Miami U is 87 years older than the City of Miami. The University of Miami was an uninhabited Spanish possesion when Miami University was founded.

Haven't been watching much--has ESPN thrown up a factoid about whoever the last team was to beat both Miamis in a season?

I wonder how many teams have beaten both Miami's in the same year...I know it's not a crazy feat, just pretty funny to look into.

AKA NOT the real Miami

The Miami in Ohio was around before Florida was a glint in Uncle Sam's eye.

Driving home last night from the game I heard Dan Hoard say it was the 8th time this feat was accomplished.

RE: Wait, didn't Cincinnati beat Miami this season?
Fun fact:

The Miami tribe, named after the Miami river and valley, was ousted from their land in 1795 and ended up in Indian Territory in 1867 (moved in Ohio, then moved to Kansas, then to Indian Territory). Only 100 survived to make it it Indian Territory. About an hour and a half north east of Tulsa.

Anyway, that's not the fun part. The fun part is that the University using their name pronounces it wrong. As does the City in Ohio.

It is pronounced Myaamia (Miam-ah), which is Algonquian for "the downriver people." The Oklahoma town of Miami, which houses their National Offices, is called Miam-ah by locals. That confused the hell out of me until I learned the above.

Miami, FL, on the other hand, is named after the Miami River which drains lake Okeechobee (which was called Mayaimi back in the day). So they pronounce it correctly, presumably.

Anyway, I figure if you are going to kill off an entire people, then kick the remainder off their land, and steal their name for your football team - you should at least pronounce it correctly. If nothing else, it is fun to harass them about it.
