Tailgating at Towson
Has anyone ever tailgated at Towson for a FB game any pointers, such as where it is allowed and how long before the game are the lots open?

Thanks

RE: Tailgating at Towson
Towson may be the best visitor tailgate situation in college football. Parking IMMEDIATELY beside the stadium, relaxed game/parking staff, don't cause any trouble and you won't have any issues. You want lot 14 I believe. It's been a couple years since I have been up there, but I've done 3 Towson tailgates and had a blast at all of them.

Just don't throw any streamers at the Towson fans.....I'll find out if there's a Jones lurking.

This!

(those Jones Bros. are something! Now known for foot stomping in Section 305 and bombarding streamers down onto those non rooters in the Club seats.)

What Deez said. Towson is great about tailgating. Ravens/Preakness vets have no problem with you getting after it as long as you don't make an Algerhat out of yourself. If you're coming from the DC area though, leave at least 15-20 minutes more than your GPS tells you though - it's always a little farther than I think and there's usually traffic on that busy road before you turn into campus.

Thanks, all. Given the state of Towson's program, I'm also guessing that I shouldn't have any concerns about buying tickets outside of the visitors' section. Is this true? Or should I expect WVU-like treatment from Towson fans?

The Towson fans are fine. Many are tailgating in the same lot as we do. ( Now that Security Guard with those mirror sunglasses.... just steer clear of him!)

Good place to tailgate. It's right behind the stands that the visitors use. Plenty of room to set up the essentials of tailgating.

RE: Tailgating at Towson
Towson tailgating is usually great. Like others have said, the proximity, and laid back security, make for a nice game day.

I will say I haven't been in a few years and recently they tried to ban student tailgating. The attempt at it only lasted for a day, I think, but still could mean they are more strict nowadays for everyone.

RE: Tailgating at Towson
Just curious since you guys have way more tailgate experience than I do: you keep commenting on how chill the Towson security is, would you say JMU's is strict? I've come back for one game for the past 10 years plus the Liberty playoff and always drink pretty heavily/openly... Not an @$$hole, my alum friends and I can hold our liquor, but we don't go out of our way to hide it.

I think that in the parking lot/tailgate area things are pretty relaxed and security is not looking for issues. In the stands the security has been diligent/almost aggressive IMO.

RE: Tailgating at Towson
I think ever since the riot the security/police have been far more prevalent in the parking lots at tailgates than they were prior to the riot. Things nowadays are pretty much fine, and I have no real complaints, but that first season after the riot was absolutely miserable.

I will say I don't like how the university handles undergraduate tailgating, and I never have, but that is another story for another day.

Riot in the parking lot? When did that happen and what were the particulars? Was not aware of any issues like that?

The setup at Towson is nice. Parking right at the stadium and the field itself is in a bowl so you walk in at the top and then walk down to the seats. Have been to a couple of games there and my wife thought that until BFS was redone Unitas Field was one of the nicest setups for a game we had seen. A bit small but still nice. Concessions are also easy to get to along with the bathrooms (important for an old guy like me!!)

He is talking about the Springfest riots that happen in Forrest Hills (off campus) in 2010.
