Back in my day, athletes were granted an $18/month stipend for “laundry money”. MinWage was $1.25 at he time. Hamburgers were $.35. Do the math.

BUt my thought has always been that the scholarship athletes already have a part time job that pays them about $60K/yr. It’s called (their sport).

Giving them a little laundry money would be OK by me, but paying them twice for the same job (salary + scholarships) seems like too much.

Resident and fellows for medicine get paid about 60k a year. And they have a doctorate. If a scholarship is worth that much for someone who hasn’t earned their college degree yet, I think a full ride scholarship and room
And board is sufficient.
