I assume due to minor injuries that they will have two weeks to heal up before the MAC tournament. When I saw that I was bummed. However Millers replacement Casey Sparkman beat a highly ranked wrestler helping out. A CMU forfeit at 125 also helped (why they didn't just bring a backup to wrestle Vinas is suprising, but that is what they did). In the last match Tutolo was tied 2-2 with about 30 seconds left. He appeared to get a takedown but the ref did not give it to him and the two wrestlers scrambled for about 20 seconds with the CMU wrestler finally getting a take down and a 4 point near pin. Tutolo just avoided a pin that would have given CMU the match. Dangerously close. Finally the CMU fans went quiet.[/i]

Central's backup at 125 failed to certify for the weight so he can only wrestle at 133 or higher. Central wrestling fans are jackasses. You would think those close to a college wrestling program would understand stalling...I'd be willing to give Horan's dad a pass due to the emotion of watching your kid wrestle but he was an idiot during the other weight classes.

Thanks for the explanation. For good measure we just beat Edinboro 18-15. Tutolo won 6-5 needing riding time to win it. He had an exciting day.

You're welcome. Those are impressive victories given that 2 of your best wrestlers did not compete. We are beginning to develop depth for the first time in decades. When you can get wins from reserves (who are wrestling up at times), you are establishing a program. Now to the tourneys.

The MAC did well with qualifying spots for the NCAA. They earned 41 spots with only the B10 (71) and the EIWA (51) earning more. Our best wrestlers should be okay.

At 133 McGuire needs to finish no lower than 6th (of 9), Miller at 157 5th, DePalma at 149 5th and Conel at 197 6th. Barring injuries they all should make it. Other possibilities are Tutolo who would need to finish 4th at 141 and Buckwater who needs a fourth at 165. This years tournament is next Friday and Saturday at EMU. Missouri will win but second place is within our reach.

McGuire
Tutolo
DePalma
Miller
Buckwalter
Baxter
Conel

All should advance.

I don't see how Vinas can crack the top 4 at 125 and with 285 only receiving 1 spot, that's not going to happen. For 174, it ought to be interesting to see who Coach A wrestles. Will he go with the 5th year senior (Vollant) or the youngster (James)?

Drew Lashaway left KSU Wrestling staff to become the head coach @ Oregon Clay HS in Ohio. Danny Mitcheff has replaced him as the lower weights assistant coach @ KSU.

fyi - I'm pretty sure Lashaway will be an assistant coach at Oregan Clay with Ralph Cubberly (Drew's high school coach at Eastwood) remaining as the Head Coach.
