With 2 tournaments completed thus far, 3rd place finish @ the Gopher Invitational and a 9th place finish @ the Inverness Intercollegiate, there are definitely some question marks to how well this team will do as this year progresses. It seems like the duo from Iceland has a lot of talent, but as most freshman are, they are inconsistent thus far. Very puzzling that Josh Whalen hasn't been in the lineup for either tournament, unless he is sick or injured, as he was the top player for KSU last year and had a really nice summer circuit.

The men are currently running away with the Cleveland State Invitational. A win is a win, but it is not a strong field. Ohio, Michigan, and KY schools mostly with no national powers.

Flashes are currently -14. UD and Oakland are second at +1. With about 6 holes to go, the rout is on.

Flashes with a 20 shot win. The really impressive thing about it is that they were 8 shots behind after the first round. They crushed it the last two rounds. 12-under just today!

A win is a win but that field is crap.

Ha. Saw this after my last post!

It should be noted that the men are currently ranked #43 by Golfweek. Over the last 10-15 years, we have had number of seasons when our team was in the 35-50 range. This year's team is not the rebuilding project some people have the impression it is. It's not one of our peak teams, but we had teams that weren't much better if at all. We have had some teams that had one or two top 25 individuals, but not great depth. It's just business as usual for Herbie. We should just enjoy the ride. Nothing lasts forever.

The men get right back at it today down in Tennessee. This is a tournament they have played in for a number of years.

Quote:Fifteen teams will be competing for the title, including seven ranked in the top-65 by Golfweek. Joining the Golden Flashes (43) will be Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina (38), ETSU (32), Furman, Louisville (55), Missouri, Penn State (20), Tennessee (58), VCU, Villanova, Virginia (16), Virginia Tech and UNC Wilmington.

Also out of those 15 competing teams, there are six former Bank of Tennessee champions in the field this year in Kent State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Missouri, Tennessee and Coastal Carolina.

The Golden Flashes were crowned champions in 2011 after carding rounds of 303, 288 and 278 for an 869 (+5) total. Mackenzie Hughes was medalist in 2010, shooting 13-under 203 which set a tournament record. The Golden Flashes also rank fourth in tournament history for their three-round score of 20-under 844 posted in 2013.

The Flashes tee off around 10:30 and are playing today with #32 ETSU and #16 UVA.

Nice 9-under round today has the Flashes in 2nd place, 4 shots behind Penn St. and 6 shots ahead of 3rd place. Final round Sunday.

Penn State appears to be poised to win this tournament, but we can still finish second if we are solid down the stretch. 2nd place is nothing to sneeze at.

Super sophomore Chase Johnson currently tied for the lead. Getting an individual title would be nice, too.

Had a very bad final few holes and wound up in a tie for 6th.

That is a miserable result considering we were rolling right along and in position to finish 2nd.

A very poor finish in the fall finale at the US Collegiate Championships down in Georgia. Team needs to improve by spring. Coach Page says about the same thing.
