Not sure what's more upsetting reading the boards where folks want to claim that Rice football team is good and being 3-3 okay, that is acceptable to go 7-5, Bailiff should remain here because he's a good guy. Or listening to the Astros bullpen blow the game.

I do expect Jim Crane to fix the Astros bullpen problem in the off-season.

Maybe it's Governor Abbott's fault? He tweeted congratulations to the Astros in the 7th inning on them winning the ALDS and good luck in what he hoped to be an all-Texas ALCS.

It still could happen but it looks like both teams may need to win on the road now in game 5.

They tried to get Kimbrel and/or Chapman but couldn't swing a deal...either would have helped today and down the stretch.

Actually, it was entirely fitting considering how few people can get the Astros regular season games due to their crappy television contract.

03-banghead

On my cable system, Game 3 was the only one I could get, I don't have FS1 or 2.

They need to be on networks everyone can get and in all honesty, over the air. Just create a network like Raycom and lease the rights to local affiliates like the old days.

Or A&M last year. Or NC State the year before that. Makes you wonder if Hallmark started doing some consulting for the Astros at the end of August.

Astros had a good fight but KC and Toronto in the ALCS. Bright future though for the team with all their young talent. Now KC and Toronto get to bemoan their lack of national coverage as you know the media is going to go crazy over either a Cubs-Mets or Cubs-Dodgers NLCS. Why couldn't Back to the Future II have predicted the Astros to win the 2015 World Series?

RE: OT - Houston Astros postseason picture
I wanted to see a Texas-Houston ALCS, because that would have been very compelling. But Toronto-Kansas City was probably the correct outcome, as I feel that they were marginally better than their respective opponents on paper.

The Royals' fortunes seem to be tied to Cueto, as the outcomes of his starts are the most crucial variable for them. If Cueto pitches well, I think that KC is a lock for the ALCS. The Blue Jays can really hit, but as the old saying goes, pitching wins titles.

That being said, I also think that the Cubs are the most complete team remaining (I can't believe I typed that), and they have the best manager in baseball by far. If they don't have a massive, bizarre meltdown like they did in 2003, they should win the NL at the very least. Kershaw and Greinke and pray for rain ain't gonna take the Dodgers all the way, and I just don't believe that the Mets are that good.

Only issue is that the Cubs have the exact issue ... Lester and Jake and pray for [some sort of meteorological phenomena that rhymes with Jake].

Looks like Cubs will have aces in 1/2/5/6 ... while Dodgers would in 2/3/6/7. That theoretically should give the Cubs a slight advantage.

Warren Spahn was one of my grandfather's best friends.

That, and I do know my stuff to a certain extent. That is a result of being my grandfather's grandson. He was a talented and well-known political cartoonist and sportswriter in his day. I inherited some of his knowledge, but none of his ability.

Right around the time of the Great Depression, Walt Disney personally offered my grandfather a job as one of Disney's primary animators. For whatever reason, Grandpa turned him down.

AL ball is almost as good to watch as NL ball. The things I miss are:

1. Being able to see NL ball in Houston and AL ball in Arlington. Now the nearest NL team is in St. Louis. But I did get see Rockies-Giants last year in Denver but it got hailed out during the game.

2. More late games that end too late to want to watch the end and miss the newspaper deadline because we ended up in the West division.

3. 90 years of NL tradition-50 as an NL team and another 40 as a Cardinal AA team with a short time as a Cub AAA team.

4. the strategy involved in deciding when to pull the pitcher and have a pinch-hitter and/or a lineup shift.

Just to clarify, the current ownership group were never given the option of staying in the National League. The move to the American League was a condition imposed by MLB as a requirement for approval of the sale. And since MLB has a statutory anti-trust exemption, they can do that. The options given were 1) to buy a team that would move to the AL or 2) not to buy a team. Drayton always kissed up to Bud, usually with negative results, and this was just one final example.

I will say that after spending time in Dallas and working part-time for the Rangers, AL ball grew on me and I'm not as opposed to the move as some. I've also been able to see a few games that would not have been available without the shift--Darvish's near perfect game and Pettitte's final career start among them.

RE: OT - Houston Astros postseason picture
There were still many Cards fans in Houston during the 1960s because the Buffs had been a Card AA team. Almost everyone stood up at Colt Stadium in 1963 when Stan the Man came up to bat. My father told me why everyone was standing for an opposing team player.

Given the change of leagues and transitioning of each roster, I now find myself rooting for the Astros in the AL (hope I'm allowed to jump on the bandwagon). Of course, that would change should the World Series play out a certain way.

(As a side note ... with the game on in the background last night our 5 year old asked me if the "Asteroids" were winning.)
