NIU to Host Midnight Madness October 8
Catch the Huskies on the court for the first time in 2015-16

DEKALB, Ill. -- Get your first look at the Northern Illinois University men’s and women’s basketball teams at Midnight Madness on Thursday, Oct. 8, at the NIU Convocation Center. Doors will open at 8 p.m., and the festivities will begin at 8:30.

Fans will have the opportunity to meet the Huskie players and coaches, get autographs and participate in contests to win prizes throughout the evening. Free pizza will be provided to all NIU students in attendance courtesy of Vinny’s Pizza will supplies last.

The Huskie men’s and women’s basketball teams will each compete in a three-point contest and the men’s team will also showcase its high-flying ability in a dunk contest. Following the dunk contest, one NIU student will have the opportunity at a half-court shot to win free Vinny’s Pizza for six months.

NIU women’s basketball opens a new era in 2015-16 under the direction of new head coach Lisa Carlsen. Carlsen comes to NIU following eight successful seasons at Lewis where she led the Flyers to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight in 2015 and was named the WBCA’s National Coach of the Year, leading the program to a 31-3 record.

Mark Montgomery begins his fifth season at the helm of the NIU men’s basketball team. Last season the Huskies posted a 14-16 overall mark, finishing the regular season with four-straight victories including a win over MAC regular season champion Central Michigan. The Huskies recorded their best RPI since 2005-06 while playing their toughest strength of schedule since 2004-05.

Season tickets for the upcoming 2015-16 season of NIU basketball are available now, with the combined men's and women's season ticket available for just $135. Season tickets for Huskie men's basketball are available for the general public for just $110, while NIU football or women's basketball season ticket holders, NIU faculty/staff, Varsity or Alumni Club members and seniors can purchase season tickets for just $95, or just $5 per game.

Huskie women’s basketball season tickets are just $50, with NIU football or men’s basketball season ticket holders, NIU faculty/staff, Varsity or Alumni Club members and seniors able to purchase season tickets for Huskie women’s basketball for just $40.

New this season is the Huskie Family Pack season ticket. The Family Pack offers fans four season tickets for Huskie men's or women's basketball. The men's basketball family pack is $329, a savings of over $110 on four regularly priced season tickets, while the women’s basketball family pack is available for $120, a savings of $80 on four regularly priced season tickets. Hmm, how many players are coaches are on the team again? That would be my guess to the total haha. It might take a few years of success before NIU basketball culture is back enough to draw people to it.
