  • Holley is the team's best defender - not sure if Forbes meant overall best defender or best frontcourt defender. Either way, I did not expect this given Jurkin's presence.
  • Guyn and Cromer have shot over 50% from 3-pt in practice
  • Forbes thinks he'll go 11 deep.

Holley as best defender??? Although I certainly hope that Holley does well, I'm not sure that this is a good thing. With Peter Jurkin's length and athleticism, one would hope that he is capable of doing better than a guy 4 inches smaller. My impression is that Jurkin may be facing a learning curve after 3 years of no D1 game action.

Guyn and Cromer over 50% from 3? No surprise for Cromer who shot .461 from 3 with 107 makes in game action last year. http://stats.njcaa.org/sports/mbkb/2014-...cromer04za MAJOR surprise for Guyn. This is a guy whose career percentage from the field for all shots is only .349, and whose 3 point percentage is a mere .292. http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/play...uyn-1.html With all the long athletic slashers we've got, perimeter shooting is one of our biggest question marks. Having two guards who can bury it would make a huge difference in preventing teams from collapsing on our front court.

It would probably be a very good thing if Forbes goes deep, especially early in the year. Keep the competition going. Give the guys a good look. A lot of guys have transferred in with only one or two years of eligibility looking for their last chance to excel. Keeping them all involved and satisfied is one of the toughest coaching challenges that Forbes faces.

I have heard Guyn is shooting lights out during practice. Sadly I have also heard our big men are having trouble defending, thus the reason Holley is our best defender atm.

Let me start:

*From practice reports I assume both freshman, Shemar and Stokes, will be red-shirted for development.
*Perea of course is ineligible for this season.

13 are left:
1.T.J. Cromer
2.Petey McClain
3.Ge'Lawn Guyn
4.Peter Jurkin
5.Isaac Banks
6.Tevin Glass
7.A.J. Merriweather
8.Deuce Bello
9.Lester Wilson
10.Nigel Holley
11.Abednego Lufile
12.Desonta Bradford
13.Stetson Moore

I don't know who you rule out as part of the 11 here besides Moore? Could it be Desonta Bradford?

P.S. How cautious do I need to be of revealing information I am generous enough to receive?

One thing I can guarantee you is Desonta is not left out of the 11. His athleticism is on par with AJ.

Also, Lufile should be much much higher on the list.

When he was signed, ETSU posted the following:
"Due to NCAA rules, Glass will have to sit out the 2015-16 season, and will have one year of eligibility left following that transfer period." Emphasis added.

Glass and Mosquera-Perea both have to sit out due to transferring.
that takes us to 14, I figure the walk-on JUCO from Walters State isn't going to play much, that is 13. Redshirt the 2 freshman, that would make 11.

RE: Open Practice at Freedom Hall
At this point I say Cromer and Guyn get the most playing time.

If we're going 11 deep, I wouldn't be surprised if we occasionally go with smaller lineup, especially considering how crowded our backcourt is.

I bet Lester, AJ, Bradford and Deuce will get shuffled in and out a lot, subbing in for Cromer and whoever starts at the 3. Ike and Bennie probably split time at PF. Petey backing up Guyn. Then Moore occasionally coming in when we need some 3-point shots.

No idea what's going to happen at the 5. I still say Jurkin starts but may not get more than 15 - 20 a game, with Holley getting the other 15 or 20. If Stokes isn't red-shirted he'll get some time at the 5 too.

Will be interested in seeing if Johnson and Stokes are red-shirted.

Of course I'm just speculating here and could be wrong about everything.

And not to get ahead of ourselves but what are we going to do next year with Hanner and Glass coming in? We don't lose any of our big men unless someone decides to transfer or gets injured. Not necessarily a bad problem to have though.

Share everything you know. If someone is generous enough to give you inside info then they should realize you might share it.

People can share what they want. But I cringed over the summer when the FERPA violation hit. No way anyone needs to hear that stuff, despite family connections.

RE: Open Practice at Freedom Hall
My 11-deep (so glad I can legit say that for once) would be as follows:

PG: Guyn, Petey
SG: Cromer, Desonta
SF: Merriweather, Bello, Lester (holy crap we are loaded at the 3)
PF: Ike, Benny
C: Jurkin, Holley
