You think it has anything to do with that time he killed that guy?

I'm sure that's worn on him.
Also, he's 25th this season. Tough on a hyper-competitive guy.
Plus, Boyer gets his ride when he's done.

Personally, I think he'll just miss mixing it up with Gordon, so he's outta here.

Oh, you mean the time a stoned wannabe big-time racer stepped out of his car onto a live track and started puffing his chest out only to be run over? Yeah, that did weigh on Stewart and he admitted as much when he said you don't fully recover from something like that.

Was there another time he killed somebody?

Anyone who says that Tony killed the guy is just showing their ignorance. Let's have someone walk in front of your car, going 30MPH+, around a corner, with not the best lighting, and see what happens.

Oh, you mean the time when Stewart deliberately fishtailed the car ---knowing that the car would slide toward the guy that was killed. I don't think he meant to hit him----but I do think he meant to swerve toward him.

I'm still not certain that he even really saw him until the last minute. Combine the lighting conditions with restricted view from both the helmet and the car and I could easily see how Tony hit him and didn't really notice until the last minute. Those cars have quite a punch, plus sliding around on dirt and they can easily be a bit squirrely. Tragic nonetheless, but completely avoidable had Ward not put himself in harm's way.

Do not think he went out to hurt the guy, but. It wasn't the first time he had tried to intimidate drivers when he ran sprint car races. Had a number of run in with the ASCS when he ran and was responsible for a crash at that exact same track which sent a driver to the hospital a year earlier with a broken back. He had sent the guy into the wall on the lap before. And before anyone say he did not touch the guys car. You cannot see your front wheel from inside the car. You can only make a general assumption at to where your front wheel is in relation to the other guys rear tie and you move to try and avoid that contact. He put a slide job on the kid and forcing the kid to move up the track to avoid him and he made contact with wall. Ask Jeff Swindell about Marshall Skinner's driving in the Rock and Roll 50 a few years back. Marshall put Jeff in wall the same way.

HIGHLY unlikely the dude was stoned as many believed. More likely it was inactive THC they found in his blood stream which had been stored in his body fat and then released in the blood stream as the effect of his competing and muscling the car around the track on a hot night wearing a thick hot drivers suit. THC can be store in your fat cells for a month or longer after you had your last toke, then be released into blood steam when your body burns fat cells..As anyone who works out knows your body continues to burn body fat for some time after you ended your workout. He survived for 45 minutes after being hit. During this time the body was still burning fat cells and releasing the stored THC into his blood stream. Pot tends to make a person mellow and LESS LIKELY to get out of his car and aggressively go after someone.

Several witnesses sitting in the turns who said they heard Tony gun his engine and the rear end kick out, but once the DA saw tox screen he just phone it in to grand jury.

As most likely one of the few if not the only one in here who has driven on these type tracks. I can tell by looking at the video that lighting was not an issue. The video seems to indicate that the track was very well lit. Track was under caution so there is no reason for the cars to get squirrely. Think he was trying to put the kid in his place and it backfired. No one has ever accused Tony of being too humble. Followed him from his pre Indy Car days in USAC Midgets, Sprints and Silver Crown. Has always had an ego.

Also he will need to take a more active ownership role in Stewart Haas since Gene Haas has put a lot of his time into his new F1 team which will be debuting next year. Also Danica's ability to draw in sponsorship money is waning as Go Daddy is out and currently she only has sponsorship for 3/4 of the season next year. Besides he will be 45 after next season.
