The thing in this poll that pisses me off more than anything is Toledo getting 68 votes. All because they beat an overrated Arkansas team that was ranked at the time. People say rankings don't matter early in the season. I beg to differ. All these SEC teams, including Arkansas, getting ranked simply because they're in the SEC is affecting other teams. Toledo hasn't beaten anybody but Arkansas. And as we know know now, Arkansas sucks. But, Toledo will continue to get votes as long as they win and they're not playing anybody. This ESPN lovefest for the SEC is having a negative affect on the rest of college football.

^This. Just keep winning though...and eventually they'll 'SEE' us. It did not happen overnight for TCU either.

Know what happened the last time Ole Miss came to Memphis ranked #3 (in 1963)?

When Louisville was in the Big East, they got respect. The one year they were in the AAC, they lost respect. Then when they joined the ACC, they regained the respect. P5 matters

Names still carry a lot of weight though. Look at BYU, they are still getting votes after being creamed by an unranked Michigan, and BYU was only #22 going into the game...

And the bias was around even then... ;-)

Not sure how Tennessee is getting ANY votes. All they've done this year is beat Bowling Green and Western Carolina Sisters of the Poor. When faced with halfway decent competition, they completely choked away 2 games that they had won.

Crap. That means the Tigers lost by a score of 0 to 0. I hate it when that happens.

TN gets votes because they are perceived as being a football school for the last 20 years or so and they play in the $EC.

On the other hand our Tigers are building a program to be a football school. We just started 4 years ago. We have to begin winning consistently over the next 2 to 3 years and going to bowls year in year out. Give us 2 more solid years of winning and bowling and then you will see us getting votes.

Not just the AP.

And not just Coach Babers. Apparently plenty of other coaches think so, too.
