Could Nashville support NBA?
I was talking to some Nashville friends and they expressed their desire for Nashville to get an NBA team. They seem to think it makes sense...

I wasn't sure if the city could support the NFL, NHL, and NBA.

Thoughts?

Not in that arena for certain.

I think the NBA disagrees. 1 team in Tennessee is plenty.

Nashville will get a NBA team about the same time Memphis gets a NFL team.

I live in Nashville, so thanks! 05-nono

It's a great city, just too many disgusting Vawl fans.

And no, they could not support an NBA team. They don't even like basketball.

I agree. Just didn't have any "facts" to back up my claim.

RE: Could Nashville support NBA?
they came close a couple times, particularly with a possible Timberwolves relocation

When Heisley let it be known that he was getting out of Vancouver, the following cities were mentioned initially....

Anaheim, Louisville, New Orleans, Las Vegas, Nashville, Buffalo, San Diego

then there was this washed up river town who came in late and stole the show

If the Preds weren't there, it's likely that the Grizzlies could very well have ended up in Nashville

I think the real question is can Nashville support the NHL and NBA at the same time. I think the answer is no due to the similarity of the seasons. Nashville's average income is higher than Memphis' but only slightly (about $3,000 per) so supporting 2 teams at the same time would be difficult. I'm sure the Preds have some sort of "main tenant rights" to the arena so that would be a HUGE impediment unless another arena was built, which is another issue all to itself

RE: Could Nashville support NBA?
While Nashville is growing for sure, the Titans suck up most of the limited corporate support leaving the Predators scrambling, although their success of late has helped. The Preds have to have a direct Metro Government subsidy of about 6 million a year to stay solvent. Try getting something like that down here. There's just not enough large corporate support for a third major league franchise up there. We're lucky to have two large companies here, FedEx and AutoZone, that are both huge into sports marketing.

We'd get an MLB team before an NBA team.

Not sure the NBA would even allow a team in Nashville as long as Grizzlies are in Memphis. They see the area in between Memphis and Nashville as Grizzlies territory. Splitting that area between two teams is not a great idea.

RE: Could Nashville support NBA?
I never thought of Nashville as a NHL town, but NHL seems to be easier to support than NFL or NBA. NFL and NBA in Nashville might be tough, but more likely than Memphis. Nashville has a diverse economy that could support both. Memphis still needs to have a better economy to support NFL and NBA.

But, this talk brings back memories of Memphis having those pre-season ticket sales. And, I LOVED the Memphis Southmen, the original Memphis Grizzlies! And, the Csonka, Kiick and Warfield days.
