Anyone have Boz's number handy?

Missed PAT and 2 medium range FGs by Buc's kicker.

Missed PAT and 1 FG by the fat Aggie.

Watching this game and cringing. Just crappy football all around.

Atleast New England is up 51-10. :)

The odd part is that the Bucs' kicker, Brindza, started off the game by making a 58-yarder. His first career FG was a 55-yarder against NO last week.

Ultimately, there were 6 missed kicks in the game, as Brindza also failed from 57 yards in the last minute.

I don't think Bullock's job is in jeopardy. He's been pretty reliable for the most part the last year-plus. It does seem like some kickers are on shaky ground throughout the league and in general, the new PAT rules are making veteran kickers' contracts pretty expendable. Hasn't Pittsburgh been trying for 2 on just about every touchdown?

I have always wanted the NFL to adopt a rugby concept for the PAT. You kick the PAT from wherever you break the plane of the goal. So if you throw a corner fade, you kick from the edge of the field (outside of the end zone, of course).

Would make the PAT interesting and maybe make people plan how they score (if they can).

I like this idea too. And like rugby, you can back up as far as you want to, in order to get the angle. Probably have to bring it in at least 5 yards from sideline in order to have room to set up the kick formation, but no further.

In many cases, the math really comes down to having a kicker who can consistently generate touchbacks at the expense of maybe 5% or 10% on FG accuracy. The Skins just cut loose a FG kicker who was exceedingly accurate (at least last year - he struggled this preseason and in the first game), but wouldn't even be used outside of 50 yards much, and often couldn't put kickoffs in the end zone.

Here's someone who worked through the numbers when the Skins made this move.

Missing PATs, at the new range? Well, shouldn't happen much. If you want to keep a job, don't make it a habit.

Nick Novak got the job, Bullock cut. It's a hard business to break into

Boswell tried out for the job as well. I sure would love to see him have some success and stick somewhere.

Another struggling NFL kicker (Scobee with Pittsburgh) and another tryout for Boswell. One of these 'interviews', he is going to impress someone and be given a chance!

13 more missed FGs and 4 more missed XPs today alone so far. Good luck to Boz next week, but between the new rules, some bad weather and just normal NFL pressure, it's been an extremely rough year for NFL kickers already this season!
