RE: American as a Power Conference
Problem is that B12 has contracts that we do not. That is the entire difference between a power conference and a not power conference is contracts. Oklahoma coming to the AAC wouldn't magically give us a contract and a cut of the play off money.

The only thing that would be more funny than the OP's post is if a reporter picked-up on it and started reporting it as a rumor/source.

Id say this was the dumbest post but there have been slightly dumber....just barely.

Long term, OU will end up leaving and there will be a new conference formed. OU will never be in a conference with the majority of us.

The AAC Fan page on Facebook just might. They did think the UCF 3/4 size replica trophies were real...

RE: American as a Power Conference
Frankly, this is the most absurd I've seen yet on this site, but I don't think anyone mentioned that the Big XII is one of the 5 autonomous conferences. No team will move from an autonomous conference to a G5 conference; they would lose too much power. The Big XII is also not likely to ever implode completely. Instead, it will simply reload with AAC and MWC teams should it ever be raided.

RE: American as a Power Conference
Sure it's absurd, but I'll grant that if somehow several major (and unhappy) P5 programs COULD be convinced to meet up and adopt the American, we would then by default become a P5 conference. Then rework the TV deal. Kind of like LeBron, etc. etc. deciding to all meet on the Heat squad. Never gonna happen, but fun and outside the box to think about.

With that said, I do believe ourConference will continue to improve and will continue to compete with P5 schools in our OOC games. Look at how we've done and how we have invested in our programs.

Since we are on the cusp of getting the respect to be a Power Conference what if WE took a pro-active stance and took a preemptive strike and made ourselves a Power Conference.

We are currently at 12 members. What if WE approached disgruntled Oklahoma and asked them to join the American and help us pick 3 more candidates to make us 16 and make us a Power conference.

Let's say we added Oklahoma, BYU, Oklahoma State, Nebraska or some other P5 member. (come up with candidates)

The takeaway is that a "Oklahoma less" Big 12 should put it a lot closer to where the American is now. Of course, we would have to re calibrate the money situation and TV deals but adding a premiere school, or two, like Oklahoma just might lead to a re-negotiated TV deal.

Also, a move like this could very well dismantle the Big 12...some would go the the B1G and others to the PAC with the fringe programs like Baylor and West Virginia, etc. left without a seat at the table.

The Big 12 is against expansion so let's expand and give them what they want...a broken conference.

Yeah Im sure the leaders at Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Nebraska all have big boners over the idea of jumping ship on the big12 to join the American.......LMFAO!!!! The hell with making 20Mill plus in the Big12....they want to make the 1.8 Mill in the American instead.....LMFAO!!!
