Impressed with Navy
Goes into the den of the top defense in he AAC (17th nationally) and attempts only 5 passes the entire game and was able to run the ball down the throat of the defense and get a 10 point win on the road.

To be completely honest though UConn strength is their pass defense. Their run defense is two spots below ours.

Currently our pass defense is almost at the bottom at 120th.(333 ypg). But fortunately three of our future road opponents Tulsa, Houston and Temple are also in the 100s in pass defense. Game at Tulsa could break 120 total points with the two offenses and poor pass defenses.

At this point, I'd like to see any team that doesn't run the spread.

If a win at UConn impresses you, you must have just watched your first Navy game ever or something.

It's UConn.

Same team which traveled to top 25 Missouri and lost by 3. And same team which is top 20 in nation in total defense. Damn i wish people will quit looking at the names on the front of a uniform and make assumptions without actually investigating the facts. You only look foolish in the end.

Our rushing defense is #34. Should be a good game.

Maybe it's just that when teams get a look at our passing defense they decide they don't have to run.

Missouri was 25th last week but really shouldn't have been. They completely dropped out of the AP top 25 after losing to Kentucky. Sure wish you would investigate the facts before you make your assumptions.

It cannot be ALL that bad....you manage to do it frequently.

RE: Impressed with Navy
The option is a good offense if you can control the down and distance. If you can frequently get a 2nd & 5 or a 3rd and 1 or 2 on offense...then the option is difficult to defend.
If you can get a lead on them (say 11 or more points), you can make them pass more than they want to. That has been the time tested strategy on playing an option team. As they want to run the ball more...they will not be all that developed in their passing attacks (for the most part the passing games of option teams are pretty weak). When they pass more...they are more prone to turnovers...because that is the least developed part of their game. As passing defense is our weakness that part balances out. I say stack the line, play the safeties back a bit for run support...make them beat you throwing the ball. If they get through your line of defenders...your safeties are right there to take down the runner.

We could win and Navy could have double our time of possession. Navy is dead last in passing but 3rd in rushing. Not great against the pass, 75th but they haven't really played a good passing team yet.

True. One thing to remember is that we had the better time of possession against Bowling Green. Its not always a perfect indicator of how a game is going. Bowling left a lot of points on the field.

Still a road game by UConn and UConn still is #21 in total defense in the country. I checked the facts too bad you did not.

Bear Bryant's great wishbone teams back in the 70's usually only threw a couple of passes per game, but when they did, the receiver was usually wide open and scored. Navy presents a strong challenge.

The stats you quote (Yards Per game) can be severely skewed by how fast a pace a team plays and the pace their opponents played.

If a teams opponents average 90 plays a game obviously they are going to give up more yards and points. The number of plays an opponent runs on you can be directly related to how fast you play.

The other side of the coin is that Missouri isn't good offensively this year, in the bottom 10 in total offense. It's really hard to tell since UConn has played a 2-2 Villanova (FCS), a 1-3 Army, Missouri and Navy. UConn also doesn't have a good enough offense to keep Navy's ball control game off the field.

Missouri's Offense (128 teams)
115 in scoring offense
117 in rushing offense
76 in passing offense
119 in total offense

I don't care what UConn did to Missouri. How do I know that they're not a completely awful team? Because they're ranked in the T25 in September by the SEC-loving media?

You can't prove to me that UConn has a good defense right now.

Why wouldn't Navy's thrashing of East Carolina be more impressive?
