I think he could end zone it every time but I believe that EW wants a kick close to the goal so they need to run it back. So far this season it has worked out well as most of the kickoffs have been tackled short of the 25 so the starting field position is better than just kicking it out of the end zone and getting it on the 25.

Stony Brook did have a couple of good run backs this past weekend but that has been the exception so far this season.

The one thing I have most appreciated about Gray is that he has not yet (correct me if I am incorrect) had an out of bounds kickoff. The last couple of years have driven me crazy with the number of out of bounds kicks we had and the horrible field position it put the defense in. haven't had that this year which has helped tremendously!!

I think it was the SMU game where it looked like a couple of kicks were headed out of bounds but the returner for the other team grabbed them. But you're correct that it has been an annoyingly common occurrence in past years.

Agree, Gray has a strong leg and is reeling it in to do exactly what the coaching staff is asking him to do -- kick it near the goal line. And yes he has done a great job with the directional kickoff with keeping it in bounds.
