RE: Post-Week 4 CUSA Power Rankings
1. WKU-Still think La. Tech is 2nd best team and we beat them at home
2. La. Tech-Dixon is a stud, maybe more defenses are figuring out Driskel as he has been slowed last few weeks
3. Rice-solid team, no one would play well vs. Baylor
4. Southern Miss-offense seems to be back after MIA last 3 seasons, will see if their defense holds up as we go through season, but consider me impressed
5. FIU-best defense in CUSA
6. Marshall-really struggling on the road which is a sign of inexperience at QB which all of us called pre season except a few Marshall fans who have been MIA last month
7. MTSU-will see what their offense is made of this week
8. UTSA-hard to tell how good they will be with that schedule, but have at least shown some signs of being competitive especially at home, I predict they will play spoiler and upset someone in CUSA at home before season is over
9. FAU-thought they would be better
10. ODU-to get shut out by a Sun Belt team is not a great sign
11. UNT-not much going right for Mean Green this season
12. Charlotte-Not doing horrible for 1st season so far in FBS, honestly thought they would be worse then they have shown
13. UTEP-looking like last season was a fluke

RE: Post-Week 4 CUSA Power Rankings
Legit question, is Rice getting by on the reputation they've built up over the last couple of years? I don't think they've played their P5 opponents all that well...were down 42-14 going into the 4th Qtr at Texas and lost 70-17 at Baylor. Wins are against FCS Wagner and a UNT team that will struggle to win a game all season.
I think they're a middle of the pack team this year, not in the upper tier from what I've seen of them.

1. WKU

I think those 2 teams are the cream of the crop and will meet in the CUSA Championship game.
5. FIU
5. Marshall
5. MTSU
5. Rice
5. Southern Miss
None of these teams have earned the #3 spot yet. Right now, I think you could draw these names out of a hat to place in the 3-7 spots. I chose alphabetical order.
8.FAU
9. UTSA
I look for one or both of these teams to win a game or 2 that would be considered an upset, and give a few scares also.
10. North Texas
11. ODU
12. UTEP
13. Charlotte
It's looking pretty bad for this group, but it's amazing how 1 win over a weekend can turn the tide. It will be interesting to see if any of these can move up. I think ODU has the best chance at doing that (even after that pitiful game this past weekend).

I don't think any of us will argue with that. We're looking at a 6-2 or 5-3 conference record at this point.

Probably not but neither is Purdue, Vandy, VaTech, Penn St, Indiana, Illinois, or most other teams us or the AAC have played close or beat. Many on here have said "oh, we need USM to be good again for the conference". Well, surprise we are much better and all of the sudden there seems to be a little trepidation. Better strap it up boys because we aren't a gimme anymore.
.
This depends on how you quantify "good". Good meaning compared to the top teams in the country, good compared to what they normally are, or good compared to an average CUSA team. I am interested how USM will do in league play. Looking better for sure but escaping against Texas State would put a damper on expectations if I were a USM fan.
Currently, I think that it is safe to say that Southern Miss is good (much improved) compared to the Southern Miss of the past 3 seasons, and that this version of the Golden Eagles can be competitive with just about anybody in CUSA this year.

RE: Post-Week 4 CUSA Power Rankings
Rice seems to always do better in conference than out of conference. They are well-coached and have a veteran QB and they lead the conference in rushing offense, I believe. I think I saw that they are converting 60% of their 3rd downs. They will be tough to beat.

Anyone that has Southern Miss, MTSU listed above Marshall hasn't watched much College football this year. Close losses is still a loss

Considering what UTEP has been through this year injury wise we have over achieved. We lost our starting QB and back up QB, the starting running back and back up running back. We also lost both starting safeties and one cornerback so far this year. I still think we can win three more games and four is not out of the question.

If your power ratings are correct, Tech has tough inter divisional games.

Bottom 6 are really bad this year. Many of these teams are UAB 2013 bad or worse (which...is bad). If CUSA finishes 3rd in the G5 it will have been a good run for what is here.

Not ranking anyone, but what has Marshall done to earn their place at the top of the conference this year? Who have they beat that wasn't a struggle?

Agreed, even though the season is only a third of the way through, I think our bowl teams come from this group.

Ah hell no. Until we get destroyed by a non-Top 25 team or in UTEP's* case are in dogfights with FCS teams/New Mexico St I don't agree with being in the same tier as ODU, Charlotte, UNT and UTEP.
*tbf injuries have hit them hard

We seem to play better later in the season. Gut check time for the Owls. If Rice is angry about the Baylor game, and fixes the problems, the WKU game could be the season turning point. Another thrashing of our secondary, and the Rice season could spiral out of control with only wins at home over Army and Charlotte being sure bets.

We haven't blown people out, no. But we are 3-1. And Kent St will probably be a bowl team. IMO there's no such thing as a bad win. And there's no such thing as a good loss.
