I agree with this, I think that WVU game woke our team up, hope we continue to get good results.

More on the UL topic, the last I was watching they had scored to tie it 14-14, what happened to that score?

They weren't bad....we were awful....completely unprepared aND our fans are giving Hud and his Staff justifiable Hell about it......we have good talent on this team but like every other good Sun Belt program it's not talent so much better that you can sleep walk through a game and expect to still win......

Id say that game had more to do with our QB being out. Not saying we would have won, but I think it would have been close at the half and not decided until the fourth.

Called back for penalty I believe.

You guys will be fine, just run the table in the Belt, the talent is there!

2 straight years I drive to Lafayette for an early season game - - expecting a solid performance, only to be very disappointed. It's not just getting beat. It's getting beat without putting up a fight! These guys were not ready to play Saturday night. I'm sure there are distractions with moving into the new digs and all; but that is not an excuse for the poor effort I witnessed firsthand.
Guess I need to make my plans for the annual trip home later in the season! 04-chairshot

You may have broken one long play instead of zero. Other than that WVU was obliterating your offensive line, and the 3-3-5 has the athletes on the field to match up with the number of backs you have. Really the perfect compliment to the offense you run. The thing I was surprised about, but became less surprised after watching more P5-G5 match-ups, was the QB play. Ellison wasn't going to be playing defensive back.

For ULL, it's a young season and you are replacing some key parts, none more important than Christian Ringo, in my opinion. Players like him can allow your offense a chance to make a miscue or two because you can stop the run.

Actually I went back and watched our offensive plays a little while ago (yes I hate myself sometimes) and we were very close to breaking several big plays. One of them was a guaranteed touchdown (barring no turf monster) right before the half had a block been picked up. Score would have been 16-7 at halftime and completely changed the complexion of that game.

Part of the problem was the OL needing some adjustment and time to gel, some of it was WR's not blocking well. QB for the most part made the right decisions. I think the coaches themselves said Upshaw only missed one read during the game.

The other part of it is that WVU's defense is ******* legit. They've stonewalled everyone they've played, with shutouts in all 3 first halves they've played. They're insane this year. We were still | | close to breaking plays like we normally do but they were just so much better at recovering when out of position unlike anyone we've played in recent memory. The 3-3-5 in and of itself may cause issues, but I've yet to see anyone run it with athletes like WVU has. Karl Joseph was everywhere it seemed like.

OL is doing much better while ironing out the issues. I kinda like that we started with WVU because it humbled us a little and made us focus even that much more. We're averaging over 40 points a game since then, and we're still on the upswing.

It seemed that the plan was for WVU to absolutely send as many people as reasonably could to put a hat on a hat on the offensive line. They were aware of the youth you would have and I think that showed. I believe if the offense you ran was a little more similar to App's in terms of simple stretch runs or the counter plays, Breida would've had more space to work.

That said, WVU is going to be a force to be reckoned with this year, but to that point, this game wasn't purely lost on the offensive side of the ball. You can't allow an opposing QB to have 260 yards passing on 10 completions and expect to win.

I could see where that distracts you from playing a football game. "running...running...ball thrown...hey man...I wonder what our new locker room will look like...trip...sh**" TD Akron.

See, it's like that.

I thought it was a lame excuse to lay that performance on. It's the coaches job to minimize the distraction and keep the players focused on the task at hand. That said, it had to be a distraction. Not just moving in at this point, but a constant barrage of "VIPs" touring the place. Which meant staff were parading people around. They'd better put this behind them, and FAST!!!!!!

RE: Akron vs UL
I can see how this was a distraction but it's coaches jobs to handle those. What is getting lost in all this is the reason we moved in last week instead of sept 1st as scheduled... HUD insisted on making changes and add ons in the middle of the summer which caused the lemoine company to be 3 weeks late. I'm all for getting the place right if you going to spend that kind of money on it. Just find it ironic his requests caused the delay and then blames the timing of moving in mid season too much of a distraction.

He had no trouble moving himself in first but the kids were the ones distracted???

edit: I read where coaches moved in a week before the players but a fan reported that Hud actually waited last so I stand corrected.

In all fairness; he was the last to move in. Still, his job to keep the players on task!
