RE: To those so quick to condemn....
On a night when defense was lacking from both teams, it turned out a few defensive plays made the difference.

Their D forced ours to kick 1 FG rather than giving up a TD.
Their D recovered a fumble.

Our D forced them to kick 4 FGs rather than giving up TDs.
Our D had a Pick 6 in addition to 2 other INTs.
Our D closed down their last drive to end the game.

I'm thrilled with the win, but I think any reasonable fan is concerned about the defense. The reason being our offense is so explosive an average defense would allow us to compete with anybody.D line and linebacker took huge hits from graduation. The only area Porter really excelled in his time here was recruiting defensive players: Harris, Redden, McCain, etc. I like Maulet but it's hard for the secondary to cover guys for 10 seconds.

Do you think CJF is going to go into the meeting slapping the guys on the back and celebrating how well everything went? He most likely right now is in a meeting with the other coaches looking at film trying to figure out what can be done differently. I can guarantee he is not happy with the defense. So why should we pretend everything is hunky dory.

Seems that is what the OP was critiquing, that folks were commenting on the faults after a win.

I think most people can celebrate the win while simultaneously discussing areas where we played poorly. In fact that's what most sports fans do daily, as well as coaches and players.

Sometimes I get the sense that you think you're on the team.

We just experienced something amazing that we'll talk about for decades, but also something bad might happen in the future so I'm gonna focus only on that.

RE: To those so quick to condemn....
Nothing wrong with pointing out something bad from a win.

Especially when it's on the DC. I have seen a couple blaming players, but most have fairly pointed to the DC. We're not some blue blood, dominant, unstoppable power house program. We are all excited about being 4-0 so far this season and we're not acting so self entitled that we expect to win every game 100-0 either.

I'm personally concerned moving forward. Luckily for us as I pointed out on the AAC forum is that other than Ole Miss, I don't see the overall depth and talent in the WR corps for our future opponents that BGSU and Cincy had.

Tulsa as a couple, Houston has a couple but not nearly the depth or overall talent that those 2 teams had.

We'll see moving forward. I expect Fuente and Scott will get this cleaned up. 1 game you can blame on an opposing offense, 2 is becoming a trend. Especially giving up 752 yards. That's crazy!

I haven't "complained" yet, b/c I haven't been on the board since the game, but I had some Negative Nancy comments in mind. My reason for being a Debbie Downer would be to counteract the overdone hype that is surely to come from some. Just like some of the players being over-amped and making stupid, bonehead plays, some in TigerNation are sure to start running their mouths with bonehead expectations.

Can one of the folks guilty of this explain why?

It's not being miserable is just pointing out a major glaring weakness. That if not corrected will hurt the team down the road.
This. There are people like us that know the game and discuss the weaknesses afterwards. (even after wins) Then there are just fans. And those are the ones that complain about the first I mentioned. There's nothing wrong with either one. Although it makes it it hard for us that know the game when whenever we say something, we have the "fan side" that swarms in like bees to bash and whine. I understand though. Probably never played the game. That's totally fine though. We need a "Dockery Finch FAN Board" to pump sunshine and celebrate then we need a "Dockery Finch Discussion Board" for the rest of us.

Agreed. Great win regardless but it is worth noting.

RE: To those so quick to condemn....
I would ask how can anyone who is a fan with any knowledge of football at all NOT be at least concerned with giving up 752 yards. Throw in that it was primarily done with a redshirt freshman, backup quarterback.
Sure it was a fantastic win, but there is a need for some correction in the secondary.
To deny these issues exist is simply ridiculous even from the anonymity of a message board.

You appear to posses considerable expertise in both basketball and football that elevates and differentiates your pronouncements from "just fans". We are indeed blessed you stoop to posting here. Thank you! 04-bow

All I can say is, we have won 11 consecutive games and at least for the next 24 hours, we are the ONLY team in college football that is 4-0.

And we're averaging 53.5 points a game.

And that's awesome and totally fine to be happy with that. But when someone on here wants to talk about any type of weakness that could very well end that streak, they're attacked and told, "Just enjoy it, you miserable!!"

So, win a few games, and we are already turning into $EC football fans. Is that what you are saying?!? 03-lmfao

If we lose a game this season, I'm firing up http://www.firefuente.com!!
