You left Memphis because of traffic?
That's a new one.
Memphis traffic is nothing compared to Knoxville, Atlanta, or Birmingham traffic. Those places are absolutely terrible all the time.

Just like at FedEx Forum. Linden is all lanes go east to Danny Thomas when game lets out.
Do the same with Hollywood. All lanes go north until you turn either east or west at Union. That will get the people out of the area fastest.

Surely our civil engineering students that study traffic management can come up with a good plan.

Left Senatobia at 5:10. Was on Hollywood at 6:15. Bought 2 tickets for $15 bucks each from a guy on the street waiting to park. Parked on the east side of the LB for $10...could have thrown a rock into Gate 5. In our seats after the first series. Stayed till the end, went S on Hollywood and east on Southern to Highland. Was across the state line by 11:20...home at 11:50. That's pretty easy.

Did you leave at the half with Hoop?
No, I actually stayed until the very end this time. He showed up late and left early for some reason.

Did you make it all the way through the game this time?
Barely. I almost left when they quit selling beer.

Took me 50 minutes to get to the game. Usually it takes less than 10 minutes. The cops seemed really inexperienced in how to deal with the traffic. They were holding up traffic more than they were helping. Took a lot longer than it should to enter entrance 7 to the blue lot off central. Cops need to be more aware of people making left turns off central into dollar general which backs up traffic at that entrance 7. I couldn't believe the cops couldn't figure it out and force traffic to keep moving.
Entering the blue lot, one of the attendants held up both lanes of traffic while he argued with someone. After about a minute or two, i had to get verbal with him as to why he was holding up traffic. Just dumb. I got in my seat right at kickoff.
After the game, i watched fuente's postgame on the jumbotron before leaving the LB. It took about 30 minutes to get out of the blue lot. The traffic was bad. They need to block traffic flow going towards the LB and open all lanes going out of the LB.
Gotta agree with this one - I understood the traffic on the way out (extra people and close game) but the cops were really causing more problems than they were solving on the way in. We park in the red lot - usually 10 minutes or so and we're in - and cops were causing more traffic issues than they were solving on the way in even with the additional people at the game. 40 minutes on hollywood waiting to make a right turn as we were watching the cops let left hand traffic turn for 20 minutes and walk into the street to check lot passes.
Hopefully it will get better.
Agree with both posts above.
IF there is a plan, it should be reviewed for improvement. Period. I get it, Memphis games didn't use to be this well-attended; but between this and the first game, they've now had two CLEAR examples of where there were major delays either coming to the game or leaving.
And yes, the limited access to major highway/thoroughfare is a constraint, but certainly can be mitigated through a successful plan of action.
Are there pockets of exceptions, where someone got in/out because they know a special spot with great access? Of course. But if EVERYONE tried it, then your little secret spot would be jammed. I say this because those of you who spitefully criticize posts about traffic jams react like it's not a problem. Trust me, it IS.
Memphis doesn't have a built-in fanbase of 50-60kk, who'll traverse hundreds of miles and plan 3-day tailgates. Until we get there, we have to be proactive to attract the middle-of-the-road fanbase, and eliminate the negatives about going to games. It's too easy to stay home and watch on TV.
When you're in the entertainment business, then you work with all parties to enhance the experience. Someone on Bowen's staff should be working with MPD to determine what could be done better. (On a much smaller scale attendance-wise, the Griz did this also with FEF when it first opened...)
I've never had any problem parking across Parkway to the west in the Cooper-Young area. It's free, and the police help you across the street. When I come in, I usually go west on Poplar and then turn south on Parkway, and beat all the traffic to the north and east of the Liberty Bowl. After the game, I wait 3o-40 minutes and chat with my tailgaters, have a Coke or a bit of food. Piece of cake.

I get it that 45K people waited till the last minute to leave, but there is no reason for EVERY CAR to sit motionless for 1 hour after the game is over.
You think an hour is bad? Try a NASCAR race. Once in Vegas we sat in one spot, never moved for more than three hours. The next year we rode the bus from the Strip. After the race we stood in line more than 2 hours to catch the bus back.
We sat in a parking lot in Chicago after a damn soccer game for an hour and a half. Another reason I hate soccer.

Getting out was a picnic compared to Oxford. Besides, letting the crowd clear out first was one of reasons tailgating was "invented".
