RE: Gunner
There just seems to be this thing now where every hard physical play in sports where a player gets hurt is labeled "dirty" by a set of whining fans (I would bet that 80 % of them have never played any real sports in their life).

Every foul in basketball is reviewed as flagrant. Anytime a player touches the ground fans go crazy.

Slides in baseball have been banned.

Now you can't tackle a quarterback mid-slide with your shoulder.

I just wish this madness would stop. These are big strong men making hard contact at very fast speeds. Hardly anyone is out there trying to hurt anyone else just playing the game hard and intensely.

Seriously? I thought in the NFL the player isn't down until a player from the opposing team touches him while he's down.

If a QB goes down and isn't touched, can't he get back up and continue the play?

In the NFL, if a qb slides in the open field he is giving himself up and is not to be touched. It just drives me crazy when they slide late and the defender has no way of stopping their momentum. I guess this is just another reason why I don't watch as nearly as much as I used to.

By rule, a sliding player is not defenseless until he is on the ground. For there to be targeting, it must be with the crown of the helmet.

The facts are irrelevant to some people .................

Preach it. When you remove the violence from a violent sport, what's left?

And that is exactly what happened in this case. You cant start your slide a split-second before you get hit and expect to not get hit. Kiel's slide caused the issue because he lowered his head right into the impact zone as he was about to be hit. He simply waited too late to start his slide. Had he kept running, he would have been hit in the thigh - textbook.

Last night, the play that injured Kiel would have been considered a cheap shot in the NFL. On Sundays, the ball is considered dead when the QB starts to slide. Any avoidable contact after the slide is dead ball contact, and flagged for late hit / unsportsmanlike.

Clearly, the college rule needs to be conformed to the NFL. Further, sliding QBs who are "giving themselves up" need to be added to the defenseless player definition to prevent contact to the head and shoulders.

Last night's hit may have been legal under current college rules, but needs to be outlawed.
red, you are full of crap. The "offending" player was going full tilt.
Kiel started his slide instantly before the player arrived. Real life is not The Matrix. There was nothing he could do.
Also, I have yet to see a penalty called on that bang- bang situation
in the NFL. So, I have to call bs there too.

So report it to the mods and move on with life.

I did, and I have.

Responding to posts and threads started by others is hardly not moving on.

Somehow that gets lost on many.

When I initiate nonsense, then bring the lecture. Meanwhile, you should report this and move on.

I will simply move back to Memphis Tiger discussions, while not necessarily shriveling when others bash our school, city and coaches.

That quote feature allows us to see otherwise blocked drivel above.

They hate that.

Bash the living hell out of other Memphians, players too...think Joe Jackson...then whine like little girls if much milder but clearly pointing out the irony style posts aimed at a quitter like daddy boy are made.

Those who have noticed this are correct...they move together like a gang. And forget nuance.

Actually that was too good a look to give up at that time of the game. Rose should have never let him shoot the ball. The coach should have called a time-out and told them not to let them shoot a three. Give them a lay-up, but not a three.

As far as the hit goes, that's the way you play football. If he going to get down, he should do it sooner.

I agree. See, I'm responding to a post in a thread I created. The thread is about wishing a player well who just got carted off on a stretcher in full neck brace. I'm responding to try to help you see another way, because you insist on hijacking the thread to attack another poster. By the way! Did you see his apology thread? Maybe should take a pause and learn a little something there. I feel no need to report anything because you're not posting offensive stuff-just stupid stuff. God knows this place would be boring as hell if we couldn't let people like you post stupid stuff. Lastly, this is what a lecture actually sounds like.

I'm sorry it's had to come to this. You've really brought it all on yourself.
