So that we have even more comparison for how bad the UC defense is - WKU 56, Miami (OH) 14.

@JonSolomonCBS: Butch Jones' 1st 17 SEC games: 5-12 record. Derek Dooley's 1st 17 SEC games: 4-13 record.

If only the two situations were in any way similar!

Go take a look at Tennessee's roster before he arrived. Then consider what conference his program is in.

Other differences...

One coach has a nationally top ranked recruiting class again and has a loaded squad next year that will no longer be young. The other doesn't and will be poor mouthing replacing all of the senior talent that was largely the past coaching staff's recruits with the exception of a few transfers.

Also, one coach's team was consensus all world pick for best team in the conference and contender for the access bowl but won't even sniff the conference championship game. Mid pack or lower finishes when you are supposed to be the hog with the big balls in a middlin conference gets you attention. Not all attention is good, though.

He'll get loads of years anyways. This school is content with him.

Texas A&M just tied it up with a two point conversion. Hoping they give Coach Bi-enema another loss.

04-bow While your point is 100% correct, I've come to mostly look at it from the other angle. Every fanbase has a certain percentage of yahoos who are going to be calling for somebody's job - be it the AD, the HC, a coordinator, assistants, heck the medical team, etc. - or worse. It's just the way it is. They read reasons and they interpret them as mere excuses. And anybody who talks about patience or perspective is deemed by that same group as an apologist or more likely something worse.

UT and Butch Jones is a great example. So you shouldn't be surprised to find the Fire Butch Jones facebook page featuring the "official" fire Butch Jones t-shirt in orange lettering of course:

Then there's the "clever" artwork:
[Image: 10404428_427164440825672_127521026555303...e=569E26E2]

[Image: 1383490_294461687429282_4546611332158930...3f02c9cc3c]

[Image: 11998966_423011224574327_304069715111776...e=56913B21]

And of course there's also the well written, mostly anonymous posts on message boards such as this brilliant TN Scout.com thread entitled:

This sucks!!!! Fire Butch Jones now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quote:"We can't do that everyone loves him because he can recruit, screw the piece of crap he can't coach a dang lick and he should be gone!"

"He is not a game day coach"

"He won't be fired, but for those of you that love him, YALL CAN HAVE HIM!"

"Totally agree. This is two big games where playing not lose lost the game. We will never beat FL. We have coach after coach who plays down to the competition, year after year...I'm done with watching this crap. EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR. Wake me when we have a coach who can coach"

"It's the beginning of the end for him. Mark my words."

"This is on DeBord and Butch and they mismanagement of the game/the offensive play set is a losing proposition.

"The only thing worse would be Handsome Dave Hart out there futzing around trying to hire another head coach."

"I'm not usually a "get rid of his ass" kinda guy....but times have changed. He can't coach a damn lick during a game."

"Offensive line, Defensive line, Linebackers.
We are really, really struggling at those spots. Everything else looks bad when those 3 are."

"Butch is a used car salesman. Nothing more. Recruit like Zook and Coach like Dooley. Butch is a loser(where it counts)"

"ONE BIG THING TO THINK ABOUT ..............
UT's problem may be in the AD Department. Hamilton screwed football with NO Plan in place. Hart, via the hire of Butch and approval of the Asst Coaches for football, has screwed football presently. Hart sees the problem as well as a mole sniffing tulip bulbs underground."

"I can't believe what I'm reading....I recall the vast majority of people on here defending him when he pronounced that we had the best coaching staff in college football...."

"He could have had the NE Patriots playing FLA and would have still lost, he's a mid major coach who peaked last year. "

"Not me. I've recognized Butch's recruiting prowess and that's it. I was commenting on here in year one that I didn't like his offense or his decision making. I hoped he would prove me wrong, but I'm not. He just keeps repeating the same mistakes, and at this point they're not mistakes any more. He's just not a good coach."

And all that is just from one relatively short thread I stumbled onto - I didn't even venture into a game thread which is probably much worse (if it's anything like many of ours that I've sampled). But If you want more examples, here's some collected from the UT twitterverse. Any of that sound familiar? The fact is some have more, some have less, but every fanbase has its share of Tammy from Clantons even if they aren't all quite that extreme. Some people just aren't happy unless they are complaining. It's just the way it is among some sports "fans".

East Carolina did it again, beating Virginia Tech for the second straight year, this time 35-28. The Pirates have won five straight over ACC competition and scored the most points ever against Virginia Tech in a series spanning 20 games.

Big win for ECU. Haven't watched them but they're obviously improving. That's going to be a tough game there at the end of the season.

Also saw SMU lost to James Madison which surprised me. JMU is a good FCS but I thought SMU was turning a corner.

ECU tried to give the game away early with turnovers, 14-0 Tech, then they semi dominated the game scoring the next 28. ECU back up QB ran it for 170 yards. SMU is much better than last year, they have a pulse. JMU is good seemingly every year.

RE: College Football Week 4
I know this is pretty far OT, but thought I'd post it since I recall many of us (including myself) hoping Maty Mauk would follow Ben to UC out of HS. It sounds like he's been a bit controversial and polarizing based upon some of the things I've seen lately. He's won a lot of games as Missouri's starting QB, but there's disagreement about how much was because of him versus in spite of him. Many fans who have been clamoring to see more of their freshman QB instead are about to get their wish:

Mizzou's Maty Mauk suspended for South Carolina game (article and vid)
