RE: Expecting 44-46,000
Last year, I heard how upsetz Fuente was over the attendance. One feller here mentioned how Fuente came out of the helmet last year, looked around and was disappointed.

Well.....I haven't heard anything about how Fuente looked coming out of the helmet this time. Does this mean he was feeling good about Memphis fan support? I honestly would like to know. Attendance prediction pissing contests aren't that inspirational when it comes to sending money to Memphis. LOL.

Once again, they did not count students.
If you don't believe that, then you are saying there were about as many there for Mo. State, as Cincy.
ANYONE at the game can tell you there were several thousand more for Cincy than Mo. State.
Actual attendance was closer to 50k than 45k.

They'll have to count the students at Ole Miss game.
Can't deny a full stadium and call it 57k.

You've really got egg on your face over this one.

Just let it go and cut your losses.

Nah. You'll have to explain why I got egg on my face.

@Tom_Schad
@H_Scott012 @memphistigerjeb the students are definitely counted. I asked after the opener.

Right. And suddenly Kiel's injury was his shoulder and not his head.

Quote:Yeah, there was some confusion over this. President M. David Rudd tweeted after the season-opener that the crowd may have been closer to 50,000, rather than then announced 41,730, because students do not pay for tickets (which is true -- they enter the stadium with a valid student ID). However, student figures are still included in the announced attendance. According to an athletics department spokesperson, announced attendance includes the number of tickets sold, the number of students in attendance, the band and the stadium staff. For the opener, that was 41,730 -- and that's still really impressive, given the opponent and the hot weather. When Cincinnati and Ole Miss come to town, I expect that 50,000 figure to be very much in play.

It's amazing how sticky the "they don't count students" thing is.

I find it amusing that people are acting like slow leaks over the current attendance. It has not been that long ago we had barely enough people to fill up the old field house, lol. Enjoy and build it. Things are light years better than they have been in a long time.

For all the success of the team and for a game lauded as perhaps the biggest night in the program's history, I guess we expected more.

2004 had an average attendance of 41,175 at LBMS and not a single opponent was SEC.

So far this year we have something in the neighborhood of 43,000 average and we haven't played our SEC opponent yet. I'm not sure I see the crisis?

No SEC opponent, one FCS opponent, and one game on a Thursday night... Attendance has been very solid this year. Last year was the first year of the turnaround, it will take time to get the average fan to decide to come out and buy tickets. Ole Miss will be packed, especially if we are 5-0 and playing a top 5 team. I expect most every game from this point on to continue the trend of 40,000+.

Nobody, including you, is actually stupid enough to think they would announce less attendance than was actually there.

Fresno State was the median last year at 34,876. We should finish the year better than 41,000, which is really good for a program in our situation, and is comensurate with some of the smaller Power 5 programs. Attendance could be better, but it also isn't bad. At all. It really wasn't bad when you could get 20,000 people out to see some of the most miserable football ever played. 50,000 is a good place to eventually strive for. But for right now 45,000 or 46,000 is where we should realistically be aiming.
