You guys are going to be expected Nationally to run through us and the rest of the MAC because you beat Arkansas and Iowa State. Its based off of little knowledge of any of the G5 in general, and the assumption that Iowa State and Arkansas are automatically better than the rest of us because they play in bigger leagues.
The reality is, You've got three or four teams left on your schedule that are probably better than Iowa State...and all of those teams have seen you before and know your team a lot more.
I've already seen comments like this all week...people wondering why Toledo is only 7 point favorites for this game...simply people who don't actually spend much time looking at the quality of the G5 in general.
The reality is we could beat you guys by 2 scores tomorrow and then you could still turn around and win the MAC comfortably. No one team is the same, no one game is the same.
Well said.
On a somewhat related topic--since we both struggle as G5 programs--I would love to see Arkansas State in the MAC.
What needs to happen is the schools that ARE serious about Division I FBS football like Toledo and Arkansas State need to form a real conference and let the pretenders like EMU (let's hide our stadium with tarps) drop down to FCS!!!!!!
I would love to have Arkansas State as a conference partner!!!!!!!
THEY GET IT!!!!!!!!!
Agreed, but I have a better idea. I am also a big soccer/futbol fan. This is what relegation is all about. We should have something similar for FCS/Group of Five/Power Five conferences. Forget stadium sizes, $$$, prestige or anything else they use to determine worth, and let the teams ebb and flow as they demonstrate, or don't demonstrate,
success on the field. For example, if EMU can never do squat in the MAC, they would be relegated down to an FCS sister conference until they could move back up by being at the top of their conference there. There could be a 3-tier conference affiliation and teams would be allowed to move up and down the ladder (top 2, bottom 2). If teams like OSU and Alabama (or Illinois Purdue for a lesser example) want to stay up at the top, then more power to them, but they have to
EARN it.
The NCAA is so corrupt and filled with cronyism, just like our other parts of our government. If they really wanted to do something fair for our young men and women, they would setup something that allowed for schools to grow and build teams outside of their controlling walls. They cry wolf for every other kind of equal rights, but turn around and do the opposite on almost every occasion, unless it benefits the ruling class and big business somehow.
They call us the little Big Ten, why not make it official and allow for vertical mobility? Who would our sister FCS conference be? Missouri Valley Football Conf or Ohio Valley Conf?
