Some words of inspiration.....
This was published today by Giles Perkins, who led the the effort to build Railroad Park:

http://blog.al.com/comebacktown/2015/09/...cart_river

I found this to inspiring and applicable to all of us who may feel we only contribute to this effort in small ways. We need the big guns, but we all matter:

"Watch out for those who are stuck in Birmingham's traditional approach to success. At one point, I was invited to a meeting where a couple of community leaders wanted to dictate who should be on our board. It was a ridiculous meeting based on a ridiculous premise: That in a town of a million people, there are only a few citizens worthy of leadership roles."

That fact has driven many of our best and brightest to other cities. The BHM "elite" community has literally f***ed itself for decades and produced its own sort of aristocracy. The incestuous approach to leadership, coupled with the state's unwillingness to embrace the potential of Birmingham, leads us to today. It's on us to inspire change.

one of the beneficial side effects of the BOT attack on UAB is the emergence of a new elite in Birmingham. the new elite is pro Birmingham and has no ties to UAT.
