RE: Matt Johnson
I think that Hare has shown improvement and is one of the better MAC QBs if he is given time to throw. No one will look good if they are running for their life on most downs as he was against tOSU.

I hope the NIU O Line can buy him some time against BC. If they can, I like our chances in our next game and for the MAC season as well.

Three MAC QB's in the top 10. And Hare is pretty good too. MAC QB's are killing it this year.

Buffalo and UMass QBs are considered good by many too.

RE: Matt Johnson
If I had a choice for QB for a MAC all-star team to play power P5s, I'd pick Matt. Depending on the type of offense I ran, I'd pick Hare, or Pooper Rush or Terrell. A lot of good options for a backup of course.

RB - Hunt & Jarvion Franklin
WR - Corey Davis, Roger Lewis (BG), Braverman, TLL

I would say Golladay rather than TLL.

If I could pick one QB in the MAC right now to win a big game for me, it would be Cooper Rush, the man just finds a way

You're going to takes guy with a career record below .500 and has one P5 win to his name? That makes sense...

RE: Matt Johnson
Back to the original question asked on this thread -Can Matt Johnson get invited to NY? Lynch definitely showed it was possible but I think for Johnson to do it the following would have to happen (IMHO):

- BG cannot have more then 2 losses
- Johnson need to throw for more then 5,200 yards
- There needs to be a signature play (like Lynch shaking people off his back)

Thoughts?

Agreed. I would take a guy with an above .500 win % like JD Sprague....

And Rush is 14-13.

RE: Matt Johnson
I think Matt will need to gain popularity like Lynch has. He didn't have Chandler Harnish piling up wins to make BGSU a top-G5 team years before or anything. So Matt will have to do some sweet plays in his games.

But beating Purdue, Toledo, NIU, and WMU -- that'll get him enough attention. Especially if done on Tues/Wed games.

Yeah, because Sprague was mentioned in the conversation. I think Johnson is more a product of the system rather than an awesome QB but I'd take him over Rush. Also, it said Rush started the last 10 games of his freshman year in which they went 5-5, then add 7-6 and now 1-2 gets you to 13-13. So maybe I'm missing a game in there.

I don't think Rush is the top MAC QB, but he is up there. But to be fair, CMU has been poorly coached and outplayed plenty of times so I don't think it's fair to take a shot and his record.

And actually you'd be right with 13-13. I put 14-13 because he came in at halftime against New Hampshire a few years back to dig us out of a big hole and get the win. So no he didn't start, but he played more than half the game and is the only reason we won.

RE: Matt Johnson
I'm not saying he's bad, just saying I wouldn't take him in a one game scenario. I'd look for someone with a guy that has big wins. Might not be the best method but I want someone that's been there before. To be honest I'd take Johnson in this situation (not for a whole year necessarily) but for one game he can really catch fire.

That would be great. Huskies 6th year in a row going to Detroit, 3rd straight time playing BG and, just maybe, an Access Bowl slot on the line.

Not me... I hope he gets hurt so we don't have to face him. Well, I shouldnt say that. I think he'll get injured... He's not a product of the system. He is the system. Dude is bad...

For NIU to go:

NIU 12-1:
- Beat @BC [And have BC hold their own in the ACC and hopefully be bowl-eligible]
- Beat @Toledo [And Toledo not flopping this season but shoring up what they need to; I have doubts about their QB tho]
- Beat WMU [Not easy to overcome the Power of PJ]
- Beat @CMU [No easy task for NIU or WMU]
- Beat Ohio [Not a great QB situation but better than anticipated]
* Beat BGSU in Detroit [A 9-3 BGSU]
* Ohio State being only loss being a BCS-Bowl level team at least

If Done So, Competition is (somewhat assumed):
- Temple 12-1 [P5-W: Penn State; Losses: Notre Dame; Likely to Lose 1 of: Memphis, @ECU, ~Memphis/Navy/Houston AACC]
- Houston 11-1 [P5-W: Louisville; HIGHLY Likely to Lose 1 of: Vanderbilt, Cincinnati, Memphis, Navy, ~Temple/ECU AACC]
- Boise State 11-2 [P5-W: Washington, (Virginia?); HIGHLY Likely to Lose 1 of: @Virginia, @CSU, @Utah State, Air Force, ~Hawaii/SDSU/Fresno MWC]
- Memphis 11-2 [P5-W: Kansas; Losses: Ole Miss; HIGHLY Likely to Lose 1 of: Navy, @Houston, @Temple, ~Temple/ECU AACC]
- Air Force 11-2 [P5-W: None; HIGHLY Likely to Lose 1 of: Navy, @CSU, Utah St, @Boise, ~Hawaii/SDSU/Fresno MWC]
- Navy 11-2 [P5-W: None; Losses: Notre Dame; HIGHLY Likely to Lose 1 of: Air Force, @Memphis, @Houston, ~Temple/ECU AACC]

In other words, if NIU beats BC, and BC is at least a treading-water team in the non-elite ACC, and NIU is 12-1 -- chances are good they'll at least be arguably in for the Access Bowl. But getting to that point will be harder than beating out rankings of other teams, IMO.

Temple seems to have the easiest path (lose to ND, beat Memphis, win AACC game and make sure they also take out ECU who has 2L already this season).
