Claim was targeting but I think the QB ducked into it. The replay didn't have a very good angle so it was upheld.

It wasn't an ugly case of targeting but if you intentionally hit the QB high you're gonna get tossed.

28-14 ASU at the half. Idaho's offense has flatlined and the D has yet to show up. ASU is averaging nearly 10 yards per rush (including what, 3 sacks) and is converting about 88% of their third downs. Idaho has yet to adjust on offense or D.

It's a bad call. Period. He led with his hands. No helmet contact and hit didn't make initial contact above the shoulders.

All right. We needed a big play on the ground, since Luton isn't getting it done in the air today. Only downside -- our dog-tired D got very little time to rest.

There are guys on the field on D right now who I had no idea were even on the roster. I think we're pulling anyone wearing gold in Jonesboro onto the field at this point.

It's safe to say there won't be a QB controversy in Moscow after this game.

RE: Idaho @ ASU
There were a lot of fans who left early tonight in protest of how poorly we were playing. We won, but that was more because of the struggles of Idaho's defense than it was great play by us.

It feels like a loss.

That was an awful game. Feels like a big setback for us too, but it's so hard to tell when 6 defensive starters and the starting QB all miss the game.

Only one thing to do after seeing something like that -- drink heavily.

On the bright side, the officials put up enough penalty stats to be named SBC Offensive player of the week. 15 for 170 yards on our end...11 for over 100 on your end.

RE: Idaho @ ASU
I have no idea what ESPN3 had for video but the end zone and upper deck views of the "targeting" foul that we had on video it looked like a bad call, wasn't clear there was even helmet contact and would have been no contact at all but for the QB stepping into and putting his head down.

I nearly lost my mind on the celebration/taunting penalty because I spent around an hour earlier in the week watching NCAA emphasis videos and watched the entire one devoted to that subject and the examples of acceptable celebration looked like that.

Intentional grounding... I saw a receiver in the area, zebras missed him but then while they are debating it one of our offensive linemen is arguing and one of the officials throws a flag in the air presumably for unsportsmanlike conduct then weenies out and they rule grounding but pussed out calling unsportsmanlike conduct.

Screwed Idaho on an offside by AState, Vandals should have had a free play (and play looked like it would be a first down) but they ruled it a dead ball offsides and I really think they got that wrong as well.

AState had a fumble called (which we recovered) if he was down, first down AState, if he fumbled its third and a short two. We kept waiting for the replay and finally Anderson called a timeout and challenged it and was overturned and then they announce the booth had tried to page the ref and the pager had failed so we got the timeout back. I've never figured out why there isn't a procedure for the replay official to notify the clock operator to sound the horn when that happens.

Crew was very lackadasical with post-whistle contact until late in the game and in one instance official came flying in grabbed an Idaho player and shoved him a couple yards.

Oh and on final Idaho drive there was a foul on Idaho with a mandatory 10 second run off and instead of signalling ready, signaled to start the clock, umpire did catch it though.

That game was a joke, and A-State was as worried about losing to a banged up Idaho as they were to MoSt. If they needed to score 70 they would have scored 70.

They do need to cut back on their penalties, it could hurt them when, and if, they play a good team. Not that they will mind you. AppSt is at a decent tean, the rest of the teams on their schedule are mediocre at best.

RE: Idaho @ ASU
I remember a game a few years ago we got a first down and the player got up and pointed first down like you see a hundred during the year and gets flagged. The pass break up and the player signaling that was the same. Some bad targetting calls...at least one maybe another questionable. We had way to many penalties but the refs played into it too.
