The reason a heady defense will give my Golden Eagles problems...
I am excited about the improvement. And overall I believe Mullens is a good QB - a great leader. But he has to control signaling where the ball is going. I understand he has to check the defense. However, he needs to check the entire field, not just the side he is passing too. Once the ball is snapped on most pass plays, he never looks anywhere except directly to the receiver he wants to go to. Also, you will notice that on most run plays he does not even bother to look wide. Even in a fast paced offense he needs to at least give a glance and give the defense something to think about.

Is it just me, or does anyone else see this as a problem against better defenses?

I imagine Nebraska will take notice of this.

At the same time, I hope our coaches also go through copious amounts of tape with him. Need to adjust accordingly. We'll need to be at a high level on Saturday to move the ball with some success against Nebraska. Not saying their defense is all-world, but it'll be like night and day as compared to the past two weeks.

yeah - probably a poor choice of words on a message board, but in this case I meant "clever; shrewd". 04-cheers

I commend you for actually looking at footage and analyzing it.

This isn't great, but it is pretty common at the college level, I think. It's more of an issue at the NFL level, where players/coaches have unlimited time and resources to expend studying tendencies.

I think our ability to stay in the game will hinge more on the ability to contain their QB's mobility. He's a very good athlete. Our LB's have got to do a better job.
