15 or 20 minute drive depending on the stop lights. It's simple enough, get one one road in downtown, turn right, drive straight for like 6 miles or so and you'll be at the campus.

9 miles.

In a few years, you'll be able to take the light rail to a stop that is a 5 minute walk from the stadium, but for now, you have to drive.

Well, it is an App State bar.

I would strongly advise staying downtown. So much more to do there. The ride up Tryon to campus takes you through some areas that are in need of urban renewal (one of the purposes of the train - it helped redevelop south side ). Or you can skip that and take I77N to I85N and get off at the Harris Blvd exit. Slightly longer distance, but almost identical drive time.

The train is going to totally change the University. It currently sits to the NE of town as an island in the burbs. Having easy access to downtown will be so transformative that the older alums are going to be shocked. I am trying to think of another suburban university linked by public train to a downtown as large as Charlotte.

It'll also be a great way to come see games. I've been wondering how many downtown office types will just hop on the train to catch midweek hoops?

Anyway, hope you have a good time during your visit. Downtown's fun, especially if you're single (or just pretending).
