You wish. My guess is he is waiting for something better than the UVA job.
He's done a great job at Memphis. He seems to be a program building type of coach. I would be surprised if he's still coaching at Memphis next season. Virginia would not be a bad stop for him. Great recruiting area in a fast growing sunbelt with plenty of beaches near by.
If the Miami job opens, Fuente would be a great hire. Watching Thursday, his teams look to have the swagger of the old dominant Miami teams. Another good job opening would be Arkansas. One thing I do agree, he will likely be getting a huge offer by the end of this season from a P5 school.
That is one thing that needs to stop. Big programs stealing coaches away from other schools. Hire somebody who is not employ, and stop stealing from other schools.

They'd win every G5 conference except for the MWC, and that's only because we're in the MWC. Their record is bad because they overscheduled out-of-conference for where they are as a program right now. I don't think they're Kansas-level bad.

Have you SEEN the MAC this year? Yeah they could obliterate our bad competition but i don't think they would be NIU or Toledo... I'm not even sure about Bowling Green losing to UVA

Agree. Virginia could win the SunBelt and CUSA, not the MAC or AAC. They would definitely finish second in the MWC. That conference is awful this year.

So a coach shouldn't be allowed to move up the ladder to bigger jobs & better pay? People move up the corporate ladder all the time, same difference.

Yes, they are perennially a top 15 Directors Cup finisher and have recent championships in a number of sports.
Football has been bad since George Welsh left and VT was added to the ACC. VT had been taking about 5-6 kids a year that UVA used to get and after 5 years that 25-30 kids they didn't have. UNC and MD always recruited Va well. NC State took the two best QB's the State of Va produced in the last decade - Russell Wilson and Mike Glennon, put either one in Charlottesville and the difference is huge.
The gross overscheduling was in response to expanding Scott Stadium during the Welsh heyday. UVa, like UNC is also experiences a demographic shift of students, enrolling more and more who are not high school football centric. Too many girls, too many lacrosse and soccer fans, too many kids paying huge debt and studying instead of going to football games, and on top of that while Charlottesville is not as boonies as Clemson SC, or Blacksburg Va, it's not a major metro with thousands of first class hotel space.
It all adds up.

No arguments here about the MWC. Unfortunately, seemingly every program but us decided to take a massive dump at the same time this year.
Watching the AAC, I haven't been impressed by the level of defensive play, especially Memphis and Cincy. Virginia's offense looked awful last night, but we happen to have a very stout defensive line that can stop the run, dominate the LOS and get pressure rushing three. On the flipside, the Hoos put a scare into the #6 team in the country not too long ago. I could easily see Virginia competing in the AAC.

RE: UVA is considered P5
How can schools like Toledo, Memphis and others continue to build year by year so that they can be attractive to be invited to a P5 conference? Memphis still needs to build even more, but if a P5 school steals the coach away? Memphis would go back to the cellar.

Essentially, if you're not already on the right side of the ViP rope, you may never get there. And with the playoffs, likely to expand, it may not even be necessary any more.

Who wants to hire a coach who is unemployed? If a coach is unemployed there's usually a reason for it.

Unless that coach already won a National Championship.
