Well, we felt we should. A bunch of bgsu fans chanting TOL-EDO sounded really stupid, especially during that game with the oblong ball that bg copied from us.

Without the TOL-EDO chant, we have nothing. I can't believe there's a thread titled TOL-EDO is stupid even if it's a tad misleading, makes the wrong impression. I'd like to see the TOL-EDO chant become a national known commodity, similar to the OH-IO. It's great marketing for your university.

It seems to me that with our fight song having an interlude and an outro in which everyone decides to spell out the name of our university, the TOL-EDO chants are interpolated right out of the fight song, which is alright by me. Similarly, our first down song is interpolated from the fight song as well. Sometimes there just isn't enough time to perform the entire fight song.

When we had those four win basketball teams and they'd show players half-heartedly repeating TOL on the scoreboard, and getting virtually no response whatsoever from the audience, THAT was humiliating. It took them a long time to give up on that. But they've done better with it since then.

After the Military Bowl, the Air Force fans complained about our first down chant "Go Rockets! Go Rockets! UT!" Toledo had a ton of first downs, so that chant was ground into them. The Air Force fan complaint put a big smile on our faces.

Had the same experience at OU a few years back. OU fans said are you guys gonna keep on doing that the whole game? My response, "Yes, you better get used to it, or get better on defense." Go Rockets!!!

I like an occasional TOL-EDO cheer.
My opinion is right now, is with the frequency and timing it, it all feels very forced.

Toledo got several first downs by virtue of Iowa St penalties and it just didn't feel like a TOL-EDO moment. It felt like a wipe sweat off my brow relief moment.

Only happens in large soccer events, which I don't understand why only there (Europe mostly), but not too many sporting events in this country I can think of that can get the majority of the crowd to sing a meaningful song. But you are correct, it would put a delightful chill down my spine if we could pull it off. At least most can and do clap along with it

The crowd played along with YMCA. I was really surprised by it. Very spontaneous but it is well known. Even the little buggers knew it. Who knew? I didn't. The crowd, they DO want stuff in which to participate as a crowd, besides booing refs and jumping when that cannon goes off.

Maybe we don't do what the soccer crowds do because stadium doesn't try? Admittedly, we will always have that curmudgening that are there because they like the staid atmosphere but those probably exist even in those soccer crowds. I truly believe, for the most part, people are looking for a festive atmosphere before and during the game for sure.

I noticed the announcer calling the tail-gait in early. Something I suggested (par on back) many times but things like that have to be taught, not said. Spread the band out amongst the tail-gates with a bullhorn whatever, get the crowd to the stadium and have things for them to do and watch.

It will work but nothing is easy, except apparently YMCA. Loved it. Totally spontaneous discovery. Wonder how stomp around started? Probably the same.

Just heard this for the first time last night. I don't like the timing of it - that' when the fans shout "U - T!!!" after the first down ditty. Maybe need to pick a better spot.

Last night we were getting out section more into the first down chant, and had a decent amount of people singing the fight song after scores. Hope those start to get more crowd involvement as we continue to build a bigger fanbase! I remember as a kid those chants really caught my attention when i went to games

Announcer still has no clue about the traditional first down song by the UT band and keeps announcing T-O-L over the top of them. Totally out of synch...

Please stop with the forced "T-O-L" chant from the announcer. It gets old. The fans are capable of maintaining this chant at the appropriate times. Please continue the band's response to a 1st down. Just my $0.02.
