He said FIU's defense is like a combination of ours and Kansas State's. They take away the big play and blitz the crap out of you (my words). The DE's are studs and the secondary is very athletic. One DB is up for C-USA player of the year and also returns kicks and punts very well.

On offense the OL is very athletic and the QB is a stud who he recruited when he was at USF. Backs are small and shifty.

He made it sound like FIU was very much an equal or more of a challenge than Kansas St. He said they played Indiana just as good as WKU did.

End of the 3Q, score was 19 - 14 IU.

With 4 minutes left in the 4th, it was 29 - 22, FIU had the ball on IU's 4 yard line, 4th down. Play blew up, QB tossed it up, pick-6. So instead of tied at 29-29, score end 22 -36.

So that is IU's 2 TD win.

There are no pictures, stories, or asterisks in the record book.

True, but it does illustrate that Indiana, FIU, and WKU may all have similarly competitive teams from a scrimmaging standpoint. Indiana was able to make the plays that FIU and WKU couldn't make to win the game, but they were not too physically imposing that both teams couldn't beat them on any given day.

Except when you are discussing MTSU 3 P5 wins vs WKU 5 P5 wins, only then are asterisks allowed 07-coffee3

I assumed he was asking for more than the final score with respect to the Indiana game. But I could be wrong, I have been in the pass and I'm sure I will be in the future.

All I really meant was the details of how any particular game plays out are largely irrelevant to anyone who's not a fan of the two teams on the field.

There is no reason as an FIU fan to respond to that poster. He is insignificant to our improvement and really, do you need his validation? No. Carry on.

Last year every team we played had a really good quarterback and a great running back and two good receivers.

While teams should respect FIU's D, any team with a QB named after Mr. MaGoo from the 70s cartoon tv show should pose a threat. I guess I am old too old but Mr. MaGoo was greatness.

I've noticed Holtz does this, he speaks very highly of teams that we should win against and end up stomping, he did against UTSA, UTEP, and UNT last year. The tougher teams we battle he talks up how we match up against them. I think it's his way of making sure we don't sleep on anybody and build confidence for tough games.

RE: Holtz high on FIU
I think I've noticed that he will NOT talk about their weaknesses, only their strengths. You can get a good sense of the game plan by listening to him. I can't tell what FIU's weakness is though because he praised everyone. It's clear that the big concern is their defense and the pressure they can put on a QB, but also stopping the run. He doesn't sound too concerned about their offense though. FIU has the #1 defense in C-USA so far and they were very good last year too, so I don't think he is stretching anything.

I think Holtz was right. Good looking team. I like what Turner is doing with the program.

FIU is definitely salty on defense. They are very good at limiting the "big play". Today LA Tech racked up 472 yards of offense, but we had to earn every one of them. Nothing was easy today.

I didn't know Norv Turner was his brother until today... or that he took Illinois to the Sugar Bowl and won the Big 10 conference championship.

And which level is that? Remember, our OL is still a work in progress and the QB and lead RB are Soph's. Compare this to a Sr. RB who is in the rarified air, All-Time, with the likes of Billy Sims (i.e. top 10 all time). Plus the guy can catch the ball like a tight-end and your led by a Sr. QB from Florida and a Sr. beast on the d-line.

So to put a very competitive performance up against a mature La Tech who was desperate for a win at home, says a lot about the growth of this program. I'd love to play La Tech again without #28 lining up against us. Maybe next year.

FIU is/will be one of the best D we play against this year. I think your D will win at least 3-4 conference games this year for you guys.

RE: Holtz high on FIU
I said before the game that the FIU game would be just like the Kansas State game because I felt FIU had a similar defense as Kansas St... and neither offense had much to fear. I think it played out exactly like I thought it would, except we didn't make the mistakes against FIU that we made against Kansas St and were able to win the game because of that. I still think FIU is as good as Kansas St.
