Yeah, some transfer down to the FCS, D2 and D3. They could try and bring this issue to all levels of football. Imagine football players at John Hopkins demand the money or they will strike after unionizing? We are growing kids up into college playing sports in a greed society. It does not work in the real world. These players are stupid to not realized that they are there for an education, and not making money there.
You have that backwards, David. Those players would be stupid if they think the reason they are there is to get an education. They are there for one reason, and one reason only - to help their school win athletic contests. The only role education plays is that there is a requirement that they remain academically eligible in order to perform their primary mission. That requirement does not mean they have to get an education along the way.

Exactly. If these players want game paychecks, college athletics is not the place for them.
They need to be pro. If the NFLis conspiring against them illegally, then sue them.

At the end of the day, it comes down to two diametrically opposed & incompatible viewpoints:
1) turn college football into a true professional league
2) keep the sanctity and tradition of college football as a league of amateur, scholar-athletes and let the already established (and filthy rich) professional league(s) accommodate players out of high school that don't really want to play college football, either directly or via some minor league
I'm going with 2, every day and twice on Sunday.
And frankly, if there are fans of Minnesota & NDSU who only watch those team because (supposedly) there are professional-level players in the uniforms, then I don't want those fans or their money. I only want fans who care about the name on the front of the uniform.

I think the combination of huge playoff money, large disparity between P5 and G5 on TV money and push for players rights will have one effect. The scholarship limits will be increased (maybe in return for the loss of freshman eligibility or maybe just because the season length for the soon to happen 8 game playoff will be used to justify bigger rosters).
Either way, the P5 will get what they want, which is 1) to stockpile more players and keep them away from the G5 schools so the talent disparity can start moving closer to the money disparity and, 2) nip the players rights movement in the bud by having bigger rosters to make individual players more dispensable.

There is no eight game playoff.
Defacto, it's going to be the CCG's as the quarter -finals.
