RE: JMU vs SMU
My prediction of us beating SMU is a little skewed from being pumped about playing a decent FBS team we have a shot at beating on the road. Realistically we might only be able to beat them 1 out of 5 games but how frickin' exciting is it to be looking forward to such a game? AAC team, national broadcast/attention, visiting a stadium that doesn't look like pop-warner league...

Could you just imagine having several games a year with this kind of national awareness, and even 1 or 2 at home? I'd play Southwestern Billy-Bob State University of the Ozarks 6 times a year if it meant getting 5 or 6 kick-a$$ games like this each season. Half our schedule is going to have less desirable opponents no matter what conference we're in but the bigger the "big" games are, the more fans will support and ride out the lackluster ones.

RE: JMU vs SMU
This SMU team is not as good as the Maryland team JMU lost to in OT, the year before JMU knocked out a ranked VT team whose QB is now starting in the NFL. And in neither of those two games did we boast a legit FBS starter at QB. Had not Vad decided to throw into double and triple coverage last game for multiple INTs, I think there would be more optimism on this board.

A Pony fan thinks Vad's great passing numbers are due to bubble screens. I suppose he'll find out soon enough that Vad's got a superior arm, and set of wheels. It may indeed be a very close game, because the Pony's have found a legit player at QB.

Stating the obvious, if JMU doesn't turn it over, the good guys win and spoil the smoos homecoming.

Vad needs to regain his field vision and decision making or it could be a long day. This is one of those games where Mickey would eat up the clock and shorten the game by being extremely conservative and hope to have a chance at the end of the game. It will be interesting to see how running 90+ plays against a 1A works out.

After watching the best of 6A Texas high school football the last 3 years, I think there will be one glaring difference. SPEED- The good HS football teams in No. Tex are like Div. 3 talent in VA or better. The talent & speed they have, we don't see in VA. That happens when high schools have 5000 kids. They will be fundamentally strong because they've played the game w/ focus for 10 yrs.

SMU gets a lot of solid Tex kids and I think they've showed me in the first 3 games that they have skill. My hope is it becomes a trap game for them. Our offense is really good- defense is suspect. But seriously, would we ever be tied w/ Baylor at half or within a TD of TCU in the 4th? - not a chance .
We can win with a focused effort, but we will not out talent them.

So, are you in Raleigh or North Texas? I think you've mad a pretty spot-on analysis. SMU is much better this year- they're new coach is the real deal. Watching big-time HS football in Texas can spoil you.

After seeing the Dukes live against Albany I did come away from the game impressed with our size and athleticism. However, we can't make the mistakes we made and expect to compete. Should be competitive but we will really have to bring our A game to have a chance.

Recently moved from Allen, TX to Raleigh. Watching the local high school here is like watching a game in slow motion.

You need to come watch two of our high schools down here in Charlotte. Butler and Independence would compete with many D3 colleges. At one point in time Independence won something like 110 games in a row. Then Butler caught up and slightly surpassed Independence when Indy made a coaching change. These two schools have totally dominated 4AA high school football in the state for about the past 15 years.

I appreciate your passion for NC football, but the Allen team that the OldDawg got to see has set the standard for Texas HS football in recent years. It used to be our HS, Southlake Carroll, but Allen has passed us by. The school has an enrollment of close to 6,000 students and well coached and full of DI talent.

To put things in perspective- a couple of years our HS had five players in the NFL- on rosters- not practice squads! Allen will be in that situation in the near future.

RE: JMU vs SMU
JMU has it's own "Pony Express" backfield (see James and Dickerson in the 1980's) in Johnson and Abdullah (PLUS Lee) so the O-line is going to need to open up some holes for those guys and pass protect. I don't see Vad Lee having two "bad" games in a row. I think the Dukes will score some points on them. I am concerned w/ JMU's defensive speed vs their offense. So a shootout as others have said.

Dukes - 42

Mustanks - 38

Have to go with my heart instead of my head with this one. There's a potential for this to be a blowout if we turn it over like last week. But I'm expecting Vad to protect the ball this time and the game to be a fun one to watch.

JMU 40
SMU 38

I'll take the over on that. The ponies may score that by themselves, considering their strong rushing offense and our weak rushing defense. Plus, the ponies have played two Top 5 teams respectably, hanging over 500 yards on #3 TCU, a game that was at 42-37, TCU, with 7 minutes left. SMU was in that game until the final few minutes. They are obviously much improved. After playing # 3 and # 4 in two of their first three games, it may be like running downhill for them, and they could go crazy on us.

I can't help but wonder what this game would be like had we accepted the first CUSA invite. No question it would be more competitive. SMU would be a conference mate. No point in crying over spilled milk, I reckon.

The Pony board has their panties all in a wad over JMU posters thinking they could possibly win.

"Oh my lord just reading the predictions in their board will make your head explode. They have some rational fans but the others predicting a win...wow. SMU will be ready and this will get ugly halfway through the 2nd quarter."

I think a lower o/u than most would think. Let's say 28-17 JMU. Just being contrarian.....

Careful basing anything on the TCU game. TCU was up huge and kinda want to sleep to let the game get close.

RE: JMU vs SMU
I predicted at the beginning of the season 8-3/6-2 with losses @ SMU, @ W&M, VU.

-Now with VU losing to CT, & struggling to beat Fordham and UD, losing Robertson (unknown if/when he'll be back) (and them losing 2 OL against UD to boot) I think that becomes a W.
-W&M has looked very good in handling Lafayette and only losing @ UVA 35-29.

JMU overall has looked better than I thought would be. But SMU has looked a lot beter than a 1-11 team.

Prediction: SMU 45, JMU 35.

Right because after we took care of #12 VT we found that running through the CAA was a breeze. 03-wink

I'll take the over too, but I think we'll have a large part to play in making that total.

I'm getting so I rather enjoy games broadcast on ESPN3 and would rather the CAA have a deal with them versus the deal we currently have. You can view ESPN3 from anywhere and this is not true with our current deal.

Fortunately Madizone allowed for a feed this past weekend with the TV broadcast. I'm not sure we've ever had the option through Madizone of selecting between our own production versus the TV production.

I would like to know how many stuck it out watching Curt vs watching the Comcast version. It sucked missing the first few minutes of the game due to the VU and UD game, but it was worth it in the long run not having to watch the slide show.

Well they should note that the majority of us (about 2/3 so far) are picking SMU...

Down here in Charlotte the only way I had to watch the game was via internet. I did use two computers for the first few minutes of the game. I had both on Madizone, but with one computer I was watching the VU/UD game as they wouldn't switch over until it ended. The other computer was also on Madizone watching Curt call the game. Of course it was the normal slide show. As soon as the VU game ended they switched to ours and I simply turned off Curt and company. In a way, I feel sorry for those who were involved in our production, I'm pretty sure most selected the CSN version to view on Madizone.

I only had both games on CSN, it was 7-7 by the time the JMU game started broadcasting.
