Those numbers never include students for us, and the student section looked FULL.

It's amazing how quickly it's become common knowledge that the attendance doesn't doesn't ever include the students.

Yeah, there was some confusion over this. President M. David Rudd tweeted after the season-opener that the crowd may have been closer to 50,000, rather than then announced 41,730, because students do not pay for tickets (which is true -- they enter the stadium with a valid student ID). However, student figures are still included in the announced attendance. According to an athletics department spokesperson, announced attendance includes the number of tickets sold, the number of students in attendance, the band and the stadium staff. For the opener, that was 41,730 -- and that's still really impressive, given the opponent and the hot weather. When Cincinnati and Ole Miss come to town, I expect that 50,000 figure to be very much in play.

trust in schad. best beat writer we've had in a long time.

It helps perception that it looked fuller than around 45K.

I would have sworn there were more people there myself (once the crowd filled in around the second quarter). It may be that the tarps pushing people towards the sides makes the place seem fuller than in past years. That's the theory that's developing for me, anyway.

45,000 is probably spot on. Of course, B would know exact figures by now. So we'll see if we hear from him. East side was better than normal, but still thousands of empties. West side had a few thousand empties too. When people spread out, it creates an illusion that there's more than there is. Good thing, though, is that Ole Miss will be a stone cold sell out.
