I thought they seemed to go read option to give him something he is comfortable with, but then he had two just awful exchanges. Glad they didn't go back to it after. Moore just seemed anxious those first few drives. He sailed a couple where guys were open. Missed an out that should have been a really simple high percentage pass. Receivers got open on that last drive and Moore threw passes right where they needed to be. That was encouraging and hopefully will help him gain confidence if he is needed again.

Agree Mark. He had some happy feet in the pocket during the earlier drives and it impacted his accuracy. Not to mention his mental approach and inexperience. However, the last drive he settled down more in the pocket and when he set his feet he threw a nice sharp ball. Kid has good upside as a red frosh IMO. What is he 6'2" to 6'3" and about 205 lb.? You figure he'll put on a few more pounds with strength and conditioning over the next year, so he has good size as well.

RE: Trial by fire
Moore has some ability and the first few drives were (hopefully) just him adapting to real game action. And by 'real' I mean being in a dogfight on the road (albeit against an inferior team in far from 'unfriendly' conditions). Glad he pulled it together for that final drive. Hopefully this was just the experience he needed to get confidence that he can be the guy to lead this team. I have a feeling we may need him, possibly a significant amount, before the season is over.

P.S. - Moore had to have set a record for the most spin moves by a QB in CFB history on Saturday.

Holy crap, Memphis is going to win by 4 TDs easily.

I'll take that bet. Moore is capable of running this offense. We might have an excuse to use the running game a little more. The offense has been pretty unstoppable for 2 years now when they've taken care of the ball. I subscribe to the theory that turnovers are 80% random so hopefully that will swing back our way this week.

The big thing will be if the defense can get off the field. Memphis is pretty great at the 8 minute, 14 play TD drives and we have to hope some guys on the front 7 step up and do something about it.

RE: Trial by fire
He better be capable since we recruited him to run this offense and he's already the 2nd string QB in year #2. If we are debating whether he is or not come Friday there's other issues.

Turnovers are not largely random. Not when you have missed assignments and mental lapses causing them. Our tunmrnovers have not been due to Lawrence Taylor blowing people up. These are self inflicted wounds.

At least 2 of our interceptions are diving catches by Matakavich on plays nobody else on the schedule makes. The fact that we had 2 balls deflect in the vicinity of that particular kid is pretty bad luck.

Gunner has thrown the ball directly at defenses too much as well, so right now we have both problems.

RE: Trial by fire
mostly I'm tired of seeing Gunner throw the ball into triple and quadruple coverage

that and,

Im tired of one running play: between the tackles by whoever is running the ball.
