Chase Litton
Is the new Marshall starter. He started the game and hasn't come out. With 11:13 to go in the 2nd quarter Litton is 12 for 16 136 yards, 2 TDs and no INTs

No one wanted to listen to ODU/Charlotte fans on how horrible Birdsong was. Good to see Litton doing well in this game.

Birdsong is not dressed today, out with injury.

With the redshirt burned, I do expect this to morph into Litton's team for the next four years. I do think Holliday got burned against Ohio trying to get a year out of Birdsong and saving Litton.

Birdsong played decent against Perdue. And the Ohio game was called as if Cato was under center, which isn't Birdsong's strengths at all. For my Herd I hope Litton does great but again I would rather have a 5th year RS Senior under center than a True freshman.

I never understood why anyone thought Birdsong was any good and still don't know how people are still convinced he's the best option. You take away one drive against Purdue and he has sucked. Litton should have been the starter day one.

I don't get the 5th year RS Sr stuff. They all have to start fresh at some point. Also Litton got here during bowl prep so he has had a RS year. Bowl practice that he got some work in, January workouts, Spring Camp, Summer workouts, and Fall Camp.

Birdsong is done as a starter at Marshall.

Litton played well but then again this was Norfolk State. When he can make reads and get the ball to the right players against a DI defense then I will feel better. I do like the way Doc and Legg called the game. Short to med passing routes (I think the longest pass was 13 yards in the air) and run, run, run.

Ive said before I think Litton can be a great one if he works at it.

RE: Chase Litton
While I feel bad for Birdsong, I don't want to seem him as starter again. If Litton struggles at any point this year I'd prefer Holcombe get a shot. With that said I don't see Litton getting benched for performance I think Doc lets him play through any issues to learn if he struggles, Litton's redshirt is gone nothing gained by benching him.

On a side thought, I do wonder if Birdsong wasn't a bit of a sacrificial lamb of sorts, Doc knew that Purdue and Ohio were both going to be tough OOC games and the QB was either going to get beat up on the field by the opposition or off the field by fans, in Birdsong's case it was both. Even if Birdsong never plays another down for Marshall he choose to transfer to Marshall and the personal attacks against the kid need to stop. He might not be cut out to be a FBS starting QB but it's the coach's fault if he starts.

The only way Litton gets benched is the same way Cato got benched as a freshman and that's being immature. And for a year and half that Litton has been here I haven't seen any immaturity out Litton yet.

Litton could get injured on the first play at Kent. You better hope Birdy got game cause Gunnar lacking in that dept for sure. Bird put 27 pts on Purdue in his first start and might improve with more snaps. But yes..Litton is a stud.

RE: Chase Litton
Litton threw several passes over 13 yards in the air. The 25 yard TD, for example, was to the endzone, no YAC. Also, the 35 yard TD to Reeves was caught at the 15. Those are just the ones that easily jump out because they were TDs.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Gunnar apologist, but how can you make that statement? Gunnar may not light it up in practice (I can't say for sure I've never seen him practice) one thing's for sure no one has seen him take meaningful reps with the 1st team in a game. It's hard to know how he'd do if he was in a game with the 1st team with the game on the line. I think he deserves a shot if the need should arise and it's between him and Birdsong.

well...I might not trust the coaches to choose between one and two but one and three is saying we are paying the coaches way too much

RE: Chase Litton
I was at the Norfolk game in the endzone, and I can tell you that Litton has a cannon. His motion and footwork are far better than Birdsong and he has the ability to look off receivers. Holcombe didn't impress me too much, but it was his first game. I am a pretty big Gunnar fan and think with more reps he will improve.

If there was one area to work on, I would say it would be timing of passes. Many of them just seemed to be enough behind our receivers to prevent them from catching the ball in full stride and breaking away. That being said, we are really missing that slot guy that just has a knack for getting open a la Shuler. Don't get me wrong, I think we have a great corps, but there is a bit of a drop off with the absence of Shuler and Jean-Louis.
