Restaurant recommendations
Anniversary is comming up, the wife really loves raw Oysters, we usually go to Flying Fish but I'd like to take her somewhere a little nicer, is Pearl's the way to go or is there a better place I dont know about?

Lived in midtown for years but moved to the burbs after the kids came along and with two young children we just dont eat out anywhere nice very often anymore so I'm not hip to whats good these days, it seems like there has been a boom of new upscale dining choices in Memphis the last few years but sadly we have not gotten around to trying any of them.

You really want to step it up, try Restaurant Iris.

Sweetgrass has oysters and has a good menu and really good food. Sort of Iris-lite.

you ain't getting' into iris on a weekend anytime soon - they are booked solid for months.

Local has good oysters but it's more of an upscale pub rather than a nice restaurant.

that is very surprising - what time is it 9PM?

Just checked - Iris reservations have really opened up. Guess there is competition now.

RE: Restaurant recommendations
I know you said, raw oysters, but the Oysters Maurice I had at Cafe Society in Midtown recently were about the best cooked oysters I have had in Memphis.

Pearl's would be my go-to place for raw oysters.

Most restaurants serve homogenized oysters which come out of a container, as opposed to real fresh-shucked oysters which taste a lot better. They don't want to tell you which they serve, and most servers have no clue about the difference, anyway.

Pearl's and Silky's serve shucked oysters, and The Cove claims to.

So does The Half Shell. And Red Lobster for that matter.
Most oysters from containers are usually the fried ones.
