Kasich is the only logical choice because he's moderate enough for independents, male enough for Republicans, and White enough for Conservatives.

No independent or conservative is going to vote for someone who defends the Iran deal. And if he flip flops, who is going to believe him?

Fair point.

Then that leaves Bush, Paul, Christie?

If I was a gambling man, I'd bet on the nominee being Mitt Romney. Bush and Kasich won't gain traction and the GOP will destroy anyone else who does. Trump, Fiorina, Carson, Cruz... they'll play whack a mole for a few months and the Romney will come in and save the day.

I don't gamble, but what about if you win, I'll put in a rainbow flag sig for a week. If I win, you put in a confederate flag sig for a week.

I don't really recognize the rainbow flag as my sigil nor do I expect the confederate flag is yours.

But if that is what you want, you got it! I pray you lose because that'll be the inkiest week of my CSNBBS life otherwise 04-cheers

Let me know if you want me to use another sig. I'm not a confederate flag guy myself. I only picked it because I know it will pain you.

lose them to who...and who cares?

He would win all the traditionally red states anyway simply because he's a republican and he would appeal to way more independents than the other candidates.

The republicans don't need to worry about winning nebraska, texas, south carolina, or any of the other states. They need to elect someone that can win Ohio and Florida. No other states really matter because the outcome in many of those states is already decided.

You could probably throw Virginia in there too and maybe Colorado.

So you're going to win swing states by alienating your core base for SOME of a swing base? Okay...

This only works with the assumption that you lose 0 votes in angering your core. I don't think conservative voters always trend that way.
republican voters aren't going to simply not show up because they don't love kasich, unless they're willing to cede the white house to democrats again.

Conservatives will vote...just like Liberals...for who ever is the nominee.

The independent voters will again decide this election...and Kasich will deliver Ohio probably its neighbors. I think you are putting way too much weight on the Iran issue at this point. It may be a problem..but..people have very short memories and politicians are masters at extracting themselves from problems.

What EVER made you think independents actually would vote for Trump?! (Or are we talking about fringe independents who are not moderate in political stance?)

Because he's winning in the polls and beat Hillary Clinton heads-up.

I'm speaking of all independents. Moderates, folks who feels disenfranchised by the right or the left, and folks who normally don't even vote and just like his based rhetoric.

I don't even like Trump, but one cannot deny that the dude is garnering support from places the Republicans haven't tapped in decades.

No one that the GOP ran would have beaten Obama.

Possibly, but the Republicans chose, both in 2008 and 2012, possibly the least-likely-to-beat-Obama candidates.

NO ONE got off the couch to vote for John McCain or Mitt Romney.

Nominate some dud like that again, and they'll lose again.

That's my opinion on Hillary. She certainly nominates the base, but the base is going to vote for anyone with a 'D'. She doesn't excite independents or Barry's voters... who are in some ways similar to Trump's and Obama's.

She absolutely excites republicans to vote against her.

Yes she does. The GOP does though need to be aware that independents hold the key to winning the WH and to make and effort not pick a candidate that they will not support. They will just either stay home or vote third party. Hillary is bad...but...she is no Obama. She is the best choice the Left has running as far as independents are concerned. The GOP can do better.
