Year in year out, run differential is an quick way to judge how good a team is.
No surprise, the Cubs lead the NL in run differential at +239. The Nats, with the 2nd best record in the NL, also have the 2nd best run differential at +152.
In the AL, division leading Red Sox (+186) and the Indians (+105) have better run differentials than Wild Card contenders Toronto (+83) Baltimore (+17) and Detroit (+8) and Houston (+47).
Texas, with the best record in the AL (90-63), is currently a paltry +9 in run differential.
Their
expected win-loss record right now is 77-76, due in large part to a statistically absurd 36-11 record in one-run games.
I know winning is all that matters, but the question will be whether they can keep that up in the playoffs.
