This is why the economy is not stronger than it was in 2008. It's just at a different point in the business cycle.

When these and other similar indicators start to turn around, that's when we will be able to say that the economy is stronger. And not until.

Note that the big swings occurred when the presidents were democrats--Clinton and Obama.

Ugh, I really despise the way many of those charts were designed, purposefully misleading to those who only glance at them.

The last swing appears to start in 2002. In reality, as other point out above, all politicians are responsible. It's not right to point at either side and say it's them not my guys. At that level they are all the same. Owned by big money. Trump can say he's not owned by big money big moeny is his business so why would he change it?

Up until about 2006, the upswing that started in 2002 was merely recovering what was lost 1999-2002. I'm talking about big net swings.

Center middle, right of middle, and the entire bottom row. Give an impression of a far greater change than reality.

Actually, I can agree with that when you point it out. Hard to tell on the phone. At work when I present multiple sets of data over time I try to keep the time axis in and max the same throughout. When applicable I do the same for the y-axis.

That said, it doesn't takeaway from the point, which isn't good by any means.

I think blaming the president for economic woes in general isn't really fair in most instances, as is giving them credit for it. I think any objective observer will grant the fact that Obama had a rough go heading into the presidency, but beyond that, it will likely take until midway through the next presidency to see the ultimate outcome of many of his policies.

The weird thing is that if they wanted to make the point they were trying to make, the first 5 graphs would have made it without resorting to that sort of tacky skewing of the graphs. I think arguments could be made either way on whether or not those are Obamas fault, but I also think most presidents get far too much credit AND blame for the economy of the world in general.

Congress really has more influence over the economy than presidents do. Presidents have more influence over foreign policy.
