If by 'high value' you would say, somebody who realistically could win a national title in the sport?

Nobody.

I hate em.....but FEW schools can do what UF did a few years back. ACC doesn't have any school like that.

If you mean heavily invested in both sports and top 25 program......UL might be the closest, but I am not sure they are there yet in football.

I agree and we could add Notre Dame to the list, also. I think. 04-cheers

Florida won both sports. Didn't Michigan do it once, too?

From what I've seen lately, UF is now a basketball school.

I would disagree, the minimum standard for football should be an alliance/BCS/NY6 bowl and only Cuse and Louisville have done that. And I wouldn't say Cuse has a high value in football right now.

Alliance bowl? Just how far back are you going, anyway?

NC St has value in both sports but perhaps not high value. Pitt & GT have the potential to be high value in both. Duke as well as long as they keep rising in football.

Of the top of my head, the few times when teams were good at both:

Maryland in the early 00's.
UNC in the late 90's.
Georgia Tech in the early 90's.

The Alliance system was the precursor to the BCS, before the Rose Bowl joined that bowl alliance. Syracuse has played in both the Alliance and the bcs. I believe Louisville may have played in both systems as well. Not sure, but Im sure a Ville fan will confirm whether Im right or wrong.

Which would be more likely to happen? UofL win both National Championships (football and basketball), in the same year while in the ACC or FSU win both while in the SEC?05-stirthepot

Maybe? Really? I get we have had some $hit years. I get we had an old AD that hung on to to a coach in decline. I get we hired a flashy, younger new AD who made a horrendous hire with GR that drove the FB program into the dirt. He later hired an average to above average coach in Marrone, but the a$$ was such an egomaniac he left SU and then quit on the Buffalo Bills because he thought his $hit didn't stink and he'd get another HC job in the NFL easy. We are trying. We are building. We are recruiting. I get it that it's easy to $hit on Syracuse. I get it that FSU & Clemson fans think we are dingle berries. I can tell you SU fans want to win. We want to win bowl games. We want to win the division. We want to win the ACC. I think the new AD hire points to that. Shafer may be the right guy. You have to give him time. You can't just turnover the HC position when you aren't sure. Things do need to play out. It's not we found Shafer at a KMart Blue Light Special sale.

1. Even if I were to say ul winning both, that doesn't mean you have "high" football value. You don't.

2. Which is more likely? Neither. Because they're both basically 0% odds.

If by basketball school you mean they pretend to give a crap about basketball since they've stunk at football lately, than yes.

If by basketball school you mean they heavily invest in coaches and facilities and have great attendance and fan support, than no.

Nothing would please me more than to see Syracuse return to late 80's / early 90's football (or better). Winning division and conference titles. Winning New Year's Day bowls. Twenty years ago...

As for Syracuse fans - they may want to win, they just don't want to go to the Dome to see Rhode Island or Wake Forest, I guess?
