I think if Louisiana Tech's only other loss is a respectable one to LSU, and then Tech and Western meet with only 3 losses (the game they played and LSUx2) between them then they'd have to get a good look. Remember too that it's the highest rated conference champ. Memphis could fart the bed and an 8-4 Houston teams could beat whoever the East division sends, along with Boise losing in the MWCC, then it's likely whoever wins our championship (or the MAC depending on what happens there). Moral of the story: There are literally about 15 teams right now who could potentially be the G5 invitee.

True, stranger things have happen. If Tech beats either Kansas State or MS state and wins CUSA it could happen.

In 2012 when Northern Illinois went to the Orange Bowl, Tech was still being projected to the Orange Bowl with 2 losses. Basically it was ours to lose and we lost it on the final game against San Jose state.

Really unfortunate about injuries already taking a toll on CUSA RBs.

Not in YPC, (he has twice as many touches as the other running backs). Defenses will take notice of that.

YPC
Smith USM 11.33
Dixon LTU 8.83
Johnson MU 8.09
Warren FAU 7.96
Lawry ODU 7.42

Leading rusher in the nation also putting the team on his back. Thanks for playing, you can crawl back under your rock now. I really hope one day you find peace with la techs losses to odu. You are really a terrible representive of the fan base.

Considering it was a USM beat writer that put that list together, who is "everyone" you are referring to? Is USM deserving to be on that list for losing to MSU or beating AP? Is it the three wins last year? Is it because of a coach who threw a fit? I hope USM winds up at the top of CUSA, but outside of a bunch of talk, a loss to an SEC team and beating of a terrible FCS team, I just don't see how USM deserves to be in the top 5 list as of today. Maybe after proving it on the field, but not now.

Then, explain why those five, and what they have done this year, should be above us please. I can understand WKU, no need to explain them. It may be moot if we lose to Texas state, but explain the on the field results and the quality of teams played by those above us. By the way, that was Patty Magee.....nuf said.

Smith only has 18 carries, two for 119 of his 204 yards. Take the two bigs out and he's hitting on ~5.3 per carry. Not saying his long carriers should be excluded, just saying I think his sample size is too small at this point and the two big carries are skewing the average. Would like to see his median yard per carry.

True and really all the sample size are to small from just 2 games to really get anything meaningful stats. But the stat that jumps out to me is that Lawry has carried the ball almost twice as much as the other RB's. Thats what I mean by opposing defense and coaches will take notice of that.

Completely agree and worry about the single dimension. Trying to get that freshman QB up to speed fast.

I don't know about everybody but some of us beat at least 1 FBS school. I guess that's gotta count for something.

Tech was preseason pick to win the west so that alone gives them the advantage early in a season. Then they also played a road game against the preseason pick to win CUSA and played close.

Rice was picked ahead of S. Miss preseason and their win and loss were just as good as S. Miss

Marshall beat a P5 school

FIU has a good road win vs a school from a conference that most S.Miss fans wanted to join. So looked on as a better conference. And FIU loss was to a P5 school in a game they had a chance to win.

In my opinion that's why those schools are ranked ahead of S. Miss at this point. And the only one that's even debatable is Rice. The other 4 have looked better in winning or losing than S, Miss

Going to be fun talking about this as the season progresses? Isn't it? Two or three plays from beating Mississippi State and massacring a FCS while "looking bad" as you say. What will we do when we put it together? Gonna be fun...for a change

Man, that is some powerful koolaid you are drinking if you think we were 2 or 3 plays from beating MSU.

They don't qualify for the G5 Access Bowl spot as they are independent and you must be a Conference Champ.

Agreed. We could finish Top 3 or Bottom 3. I haven't seen enough from Bentley (good or bad) for me to be confident where we'll finish. Every aspect of our team is better than last year, except QB...the most important position. Bentley has a lot riding on his performance.
