Only 2 of them are football playing members. Lee earlier this year tabled the idea of adding football, and Union is thinking about adding football. If Union or Lee does add football? They could be a replacement if Chattanooga moves to FBS. Shorter and Lee are just recent addition to D2 from NAIA ranks.
I was just kidding about Shorter or any of the others replacing UTC when there's already a D-1 ready school available (North Alabama of course).
We have to look into the future. FCS players could sue as well that they want to be pay. That means FCOAs could be added to the FCS schools. Than, the non-football schools want in on the action, and they could sue and wound up FCOAs be added. Then, the D2 schools want to sue and FCOAs could be figured into it at the D2 level. Then the D3 players could sue as well. Then the NAIA. This is what I have been thinking all along what could the Southern Conferences and the rest to do? Could the top D2 conferences and schools move to D1 to help cut the cost of travel so that all the schools could cover the FCOA? Some D3 schools move up to be Tier 4 Pioneer League schools to help cut the costs? Combined D2 and D3 to eliminate a Division at the NCAA level to help cost savings? NAIA and NCAA with the couple of USCAA schools do an agreement for football only merger?
The 2 USCAA schools are Concordia Alabama and Apprentice. Robert Morris-Peoria in Illinois could turn their club team into a varsity team. They are in the USCAA as well.
Many fcs and non football conferences have already accounted for fcoa.
You cant save much more on travel in the socon.
D3 is non scholarship. What are they suing for
If they sue in the lower divisions, they'll just be putting themselves out of a place to play.
Some D3 schools are connected with some of the D1 schools. Mostly the Religious schools like St. John's and so forth.

I'm sure Alabama will love that.
Alabama A&M does not have a serious athletics program. UAH already has DI hockey and basketball isn't a stretch. Huntsville needs a true DI programs.
UNA needs an Alabama rival in the ASun.
I didn't even realize A&M was that far north. Was thinking around Birmingham, for some reason.
UAH already has DI hockey, as you said. Are people in Huntsville starved for non-HBCU, low-major, DI basketball?
I'd be curious to know how much it costs, just in upgrades to total scholarships and minimum number of sports sponsored, to go from a non-fb DII to a non-fb DI.
Probably would be fairly minimal cost, if UAH didn't have to add any sports or make any facility updates.
A&M usually plays their largest games in Birmingham including the largest game in FCS(The Magic City Classic). The bulk of A&Ms fans on game day come from the Birmingham area and about 1 out if 4 people on their campus are also from the Birmingham area. You can pick a spot in 65 north around Cullman on Friday evenings/Saturday mornings and watch the amount of A&M flags traveling north on game days.
0?
Okay okay... I'll be nice.
2 or 3?
The game in Bham is big, but that is one game. I can't think of any time when there is any really obvious public outpouring of support for either school. Living in Montgomery seeing an Alabama State flag is rare.
I haven't been to an A&M game since the last time they played UNA in 1997 (UNA 49-20) in A&M's last season of D2 but I have seen footage from their games on the news and it looks like they don't draw very big crowds.

If UNA and UAH both moved up to the SoCon, that would give them 10 football teams and 12 total members.

Step one for UNA needs to be solving the enrollment crisis, and it is just that--a crisis.
There is a vocal group that wants to see us move, but thus far cooler and smarter heads have prevailed.
Cool fact, UNA is the only school in the nation that keeps two real life lions on campus, Leo and Una. And, it's also the oldest university in the state, beating UA by one year, 1830.
My cousin graduated from UNA. If that cesspool birmingham would quit sucking the state dry maybe UNA would have more money.

Amen!
UNA is a great little school. I dual enrolled there for a bit so I could get through school faster. I really enjoyed it. Florence is the best place in Alabama, hands down.

News out of Gulf South Conference, UNA is getting 2 new rivals in the conference.
Montevallo and Auburn-Montgomery
GSC now have 5 schools in Alabama from the same conference.

They could challenge for either the Big South or OVC. As it reads, they have to improve their facilities and bring up their spending for OVC, but nothing is said what their spending will be in the ASun. May need to check the spending of the ASUN schools.
Arkansas Tech could also join!
