CBS Sports: UAB signs coach Bill Clark to new incentive-laden 5-year contract
http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball...r-contract

Pressure by Birmingham business leaders changed the contract conversation, just as their pressure helped bring UAB football back in June. Boosters produced $2.4 million in cash when they were quickly asked by the University of Alabama System to have $2 million by Sept. 1 on a shorter timetable than originally scheduled.

I think at the end of the day, money talks.

Our efforts for an OCS may be best suited towards convincing birmingham business leaders to push for it. Convince companies with boxes at regions field that having boxes at a UAB OCS would allow them to continue those benefits (entertaining clients, incentives for workers, etc) through the fall.

And the BOT will not be able to isolate the donors this time like they have in the past.

Those boxes were already committed and sold in the previous OCS plan

Exactly right, plus millions in cash to start the project plus a rock solid plan for covering the additional cost of a loan, and we know how that ended.

I would fully expect that the BOT would initially insist that all of the money required for a stadium - maybe $70 million - be on hand before the first shovel full of dirt is turned. And they would do so in the name of fiscal responsibility, even though we know that it doesn't work that way and what their true motives are.

The question will be - will we have the enough powerful backing necessary to make them move off of that impossible position.

We have cash in hand these days. That is KING.

Of its like a a lot of schools identifying 100% of the money and 70-80% cash on hand is enough to start a major project.
