They know they could've won and they're pissed they didn't pull it off.
NIU's loss is the worst kind of loss. You weren't beaten, instead you lost it.
Agreed we had opportunities, but the coaching staff chose to go the conservative route. The false start in the redzone when it was 3 and 1 really hurt.

I don't know that I would go that far. OSU's defense was a little too stingy and while NIU made some mistakes on offense, it's still tough to march down the field on them even without obvious mistakes. It was nice they had a shot at the end but disappointing they did so little with the chances. Anyway, OSU made a bunch of mistakes too, that we couldn't have depended on .

Not sure how OSU can remain #1 while NIU only receives three votes in the poll. Disappointing to see NIU not receive more credit or respect from the voters for pushing OSU to the limit.
Great effort on Saturday, Huskies! Hope we can follow in your footsteps and give OSU all they can handle again this Saturday (although I suspect we're heading into a hornet's nest and will likely feel OSU's wrath as a result of NIU's strong showing).

Unranked team plays Number one on the road. Unranked team takes Number one to limit before losing by one score. Logic would seem to dictate that unranked team becomes Top Five team or top ranked team drops several places.

Yeah, a hornet's nest is putting it lightly. It's like NIU's D went into the bar and kicked the bouncer in the balls multiple times by surprise. Then the next night, we're walking in with "MAC West" tshirts on. I expect OSU to aim to go Pulp-Fiction on our asses, as if we're Marsellus Wallace and they're the hillbillies. We have to be prepared to cover our behinds in this one! Hopefully we can go Bruce Willis on their ass!

Am I the only one who thinks it's ridiculous to say "NIU lost, OSU didn't win"? I was pulling for NIU obviously but come on now. They could not move the ball at all against that defense. They didn't even have 200 yards of offense. And barely gained a yard on the final few drives that mattered the most.
NIU should be ranked top 25 after that performance in my eyes. But we need to be realistic here. I don't think you can say "they almost won" or anything that even resembles that. OSU played like crap and NIU capitalized on some of the turnovers and made everyone tune in to watch. It would have been the best win in MAC history. But people are acting like OSU had to pull off a miracle to win.

We can say they had a chance to tie it or win it at the end. But yea, I wouldn't say NIU lost it. It was going to be very difficult marching down the field for a TD.

No. What's ridiculous is people thinking that OSU winning and NIU losing are two different things.

I would be so jacked after that. It reminded me of the CMU-Ok State game....but OSU is #1 so it's amplified. We were up in the 3rd but the game was never really in doubt even though it was tight. I just felt like some people were getting carried away.
"NIU FORCED those turnovers". But if it were the other way it would be "NIU gave away the game". Stuff like that. From an objective viewpoint OSU was never in any danger to lose that game. NIU did have a chance to tie it but their offense could not do anything.

That's where I disagree. On the last drive we were backed up too far, with not enough time, but on the one before that, all it would take is 1 or 2 successful passes and we're threatening to tie or win the game, and we had time to run the ball still if necessary. Plus once you get past the 50 you can start going for it on 4th down. I'm sure OSU felt threatened at that point. The fans certainly felt it, as they got really loud on those last couple drives. In the Orange bowl we did nothing for most of the game and then started moving the ball and got a TD in the 3rd quarter.

That's fair. But the way I saw it was OSU knew NIU wasn't going to move the ball so they just ran it to run the clock....which they did poorly because they were snapping it at 20 seconds lol. As a neutral observer I never felt that NIU was going to win or threaten to win/tie. It just seemed like a foregone conclusion because they were playing a team twice as talented, who happened to underestimate you guys.
Don't take that as offensive, NIU played well and made the country take notice. I was just saying the game was more of OSU being careless with the ball and NIU capitalizing. Nonetheless, a great game and this is one of the better years for the MAC. We have all show up.

I thought that for a good part of the game as well. But all that talent wasn't getting them many first downs even when they didn't turn the ball over. The drive you are talking about though, that still killed most of the clock and it was over then barring a miracle. Actually, we didn't capitalize on most of the mistakes, only got 10 points off of them.
It's true they were careless with the ball, I don't know where Cardale was throwing that first pick. The next two were not quite as bad but honestly I doubt that Cooper Rush, Zach Terrell, Ely, or Matt Johnson throw those picks.
