ND player losses since June
ND has lost some players this summer and first two games:

QB Everett Golson-- (would have been 2nd string)-transferred

RB Greg Bryant (5 star recruit---would have been 2nd string)--suspended for academics and went Juco

NT Jarron Jones- (starter)--injured in practice, out for year

RB Tauren Folston (starter)--injured last week, out for year

QB Malik Zaire (starter)--injured last Saturday, out for year

TE Durham Smythe (starter)--- injured last Saturday, out for year.

Essentially, you will have the spring game third string QB (Deshone Kizer) handing off to the then third string RB (C.J. Prosise) next Saturday versus Georgia Tech.

P.S. Too bad QB Gunner Kiel didn't stick around.

P.P.S. True freshman QB Brandon Wimbush will have his RS removed.

He is now the backup quarterback. Word is that he may be the most talented QB on the roster.

It is a damn good thing that Brian Kelly recruited all of these quarterbacks.

He has the best/worst luck with QBs. They get injured, he dusts off someone on the bench and they perform well. He had a revolving at QB in Cincy. One year Tony Pike was #5 on the depth chart, and he became the starter.

I presume he means the TCU coach, though not sure what he is gone through that is comparable to ND's injury and transfer situation.

Still, despite all that, IMO the biggest current threat to ND's season is defensing Georgia Tech's wishbone attack. The Irish don't do a great job defensing it against Navy, and unlike Navy, Georgia Tech runs it with some real stud athletes.

If the ND defense doesn't step up, they will get mown down for 40+ points and 400+ rushing yards like Mississippi State did last year.

Agreed. BK is one helluva QB coach.

Pike had injury issues himself that year. I believe one key drive at Louisville was engineered by the sixth (yes, 6th) string QB, who was none other than former Notre Dame starter Demetrius Jones.

I presume he means the TCU coach, though not sure what he is gone through that is comparable to ND's injury and transfer situation.

WR/PR Cameron Echols Luper- (Starting Punt Returner) -- Transferred to Arkansas State to play QB

WR Deante Gray- (Starter) --- Injured since Spring, no time table on return, possible redshirt.

WR Corey McBride (Back up) --- Out for the year with undisclosed injury.

WR Andre Pettis-Wilson (Back up) --- Out for undisclosed reasons, may be out for the year.

DT Davion Pierson- (Starter) --- Out with a concussion, may return soon though

DE James McFarland (Starter, 2014 sack leader) --- Out for the year after stepping on a sprinkler head and breaking his toe

DE Mike Tuaua (Rotational Starter) --- out for undisclosed reasons, may be out for year

LB Sammy Douglas (Starter) --- Torn ACL game 1, out for the year

LB Mike Freeze (Starter) --- Quit the team after game 1

S Kenny Illoka (Starter) --- Torn ACL game 2, out for year

TCU is really hurting on defense in what was already a rebuilding year due to defensive player graduations. TCU should still be good, but I don't think TCU has the bodies on defense anymore to make a legit conference/national championship run.

With that being said, Notre Dame is obviously hurting way worse with the loss of their quarterbacks. You simply can't replace quarterback play, (save an Ohio State situation). Losing your quarterback completely changes the dynamic of your season, I feel really bad for ND fans.

RE: ND player losses since June
With all due respect to TCU, a QB is the hardest guy on the team to replace. By a big margin, too.

And the only position where TCU is down to their 3rd string is Wide Receiver. ND is on their 3rd string QB and RB. I'd say that Wide Receiver is the easiest position to replace except maybe cornerback. Your backup WR is typically *almost* as good as the starter, and most teams usually have boatloads of WRs because it's the only position where you'll sometimes have 4 on the field at once.

There seems to be an unusually high number of key injuries this season.
